  6. So how do you breed a Melanistic Spangle? Is it pure chance to have the gene? and would it have come from the mother or the father? - Jazz I mean.
  7. Gray Girl died sometime Friday night. I found her outside the box on the floor. The eggs were cold & the fertile egg was dead in shell.
  8. I recently bought plans for a home made Hospital Cage. If anyone wants a copy (no charge) you can pm or email me with your email address. The plans come in .pdf format so if you can't support it then I'm sorry I can't help.
  9. You're right Nerwen - Grayson was a normal gray. Will be very interesting to see what the babies turn out like.
  10. Big Boy is a Cinnamon Clearflight Dominant Pied Violet (what a mouthful!). Daz bought a full sister of Big Boy off me & she begat Melanistic Spangle. Nerwen I believe has either the sister Daz got off me or the offspring. Big Boys mum is a white DEC which I think means she can hide certain things (don't know what). It took about a year to finally find out what big boy is. Big Boys Breeding History: Big Boy bred these 2 girls with Grayson: bigger version of above picture: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/kar...s11-11-2006.jpg Big Boy & Grayson: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/kar...s21-10-2006.jpg
  11. What can I expect from this pair? they have 2 eggs. Olive: Mr Green:
  12. She's a lacewing. The mauve cheek patches give it away - see my yellow lacewing as an example. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/kar...gYellowHen3.jpg
  13. I do not know the lineage of these birds. She is sitting on at least 2 eggs 1 of which is fertile. I didn't succeed in getting her to move off the eggs as she thought I was offering her my finger to preen! Ozzie: Gray Girl: What can I expect to get from these birds?
  14. Penny: Penny's mum & dad: Big Boy: Big Boy's mum: Big Boy's dad: They have 5 eggs, what are the breeding expectations from Penny & Big Boy?
  15. WOW she has a really small head compared to her body!
  16. I think fallow have plum eye's. Not sure what other features but I think they have brown/cinnamon markings? (not sure)

  19. I've got my cinnamon dominant pied violet male (parents DEC white dam & spangle green sire) in with a dark gray hen (parents white DEC dam & cobalt sire) and they have 2 eggs! What could I expect in the nest? Male I don't have a picture of the female - will try on the weekend.
  20. A breeder & shower (she no longer shows or breeds) told me that she rarely had a sick bird and about all she used was a bit of iodised salt in the water.
  21. vetafarm.com.au has a great variety of food & they sell probotic which can be given to all birds. You just basically need to give your bird a variety of seeds like: red panicum, white panicum, hulled oats, canary, finch, a few (not many) grey strip sunflower seeds, a few (not many) safflower seeds, rape seed, niger seed etc. As long as they get a good supplement of fruit & vegies as supplement to the seed.
  22. I gave my guys some eucalypt yesterday and so many jumped on it at once that they pulled it down! :(Laughing out loud): it frighten the stuffing out of them!
  23. Good luck Bea. You are entitled to: repair, replacement or refund - it is your choice. There is a reasonable expectation of quality when you buy a product (except if they state on the cage prone to rust etc) and a reasonable amount of use is expected from a product before damage occurs. This has not happened, 2 rusty cages in a matter of months is unacceptable. If they will not honour your request for a refund you can put a dispute in with the Small Claims Tribunal. For the amount you are after it should only cost around $15 to lodge the claim. I used to work in the Consumer Affairs section of Office of Fair Trading, (Laughing out loud) I now work in the Business section!
  24. I love this picture of my "Screamer"! :budgiedance:
  25. Know that I fully understand what you are going through Kaz. It is a dreadful feeling when you go to the hospital cages wondering who will be gone today. I feel for you. Unfortunately accidents do happen in bird keeping and even though it breaks our heart it teaches us a valuable lesson that we know we won't repeat the accident.
