No they arent doing any of those things, just shaking their heads as if they have something on their face they are trying to shake off. I thought the food might have been too hot but its not that. This is a real mystery!!

I am hand rearing 2 3-week old budgies. Immediatley after feeding them they shake their heads as if they have something on their face annoying them. This shaking lasts for a few minutes after every feed. I am desperate to find out why they are doing this. I have reared larger parrots and this has never happened before. PLEASE HELP !!! :hap:

I have 3 babies ranging from 10 days old to just 6 days old. At this stage they have nothing in the way of nesting material and the bottom of the nest box is a little bit messy. Just wondering if I should add shavings or leave them as they are? Will the hen desert them if I disturb them?? Any help is greatly appreciated. :budgiedance:

I know how you feel, I cannot bear to touch a dead bird, let alone a baby chick. I leave it for my partner to do. I am hopeless. It must have been heart -wrenching for you. Hopefully there will be more chicks to come. I have 3 tiny little chicks at the moment with another one due tomorrow. Their mother ate her first 3 eggs and that was distressing enough for me!! Thanks for the advise, I am pleased to report that she finally stopped eating her eggs, laid 4 more, and at this stage we have two cute little chicks with two more due in a few days. So it will be interesting when she lays again if she does the same thing.

I have a hen that is laying every second day and not long after laying them she eats them! Can someone PLEASE tell me why she is doing this. Is she deficient in calcium maybe??
