  1. woops, didn't see that one before
  2. the male is also split for opaline.
  3. I dont breed ofr show I was thinking more along the lines of a medium sized bird, somewhere between the american(as we call them here) budgie and the english budgie, I dont have show quality birds, and rockys mutation would probly be seen as a fault anyway.
  4. Okay, I still haven't found a mate for Rocky, so I am keeping my options open, Rocky is a big boy, not sure what he weighs but he's structurally bigger than my Dom. pied cock, I've been considering getting a pet quality english budgie hen for him. So.. considering he's not a petite boy, would I run into problem with an english hen setting to tightly on the chicks and crushing them?
  5. This is the chick he'll be paired with in '08 she's only 15 weeks old right now.
  6. I dont know what Rockies parents were I didn't breed him, he was bought at a pet store, the chick I am keeping from my last breeding is the YF opaline pied, he will be paired to her in '08. Rockies tail is grey, I can try getting a full body picture of him if you want. I thought about violets but they are few and far between here, suppose that may be more reason to get one. heres a picture, he wasn't cooperating with me so it's a little blurry
  7. no one else has any opinions or ideas?
  8. I turned down someone who was interested in my male chick and one of the girls, sounded like he wanted to breed them but wasn't being straight forward with me, I wont sell to someone wanting to breed sibling to sibling, even if that means I'll have them for a while longer. :ausb: atleast I know they are safe and not being bred at 6 mos.
  9. normal greens and clearflight pieds all hens will be opaline. unless the hen is split for blue, then you could get some normal blues and/or blue clearflight pieds as well, otherwise they will be split for blue and dilute. is the hen cinnamonwing?
  10. he is visually green but a white based bird, the YF turned him green. the chick is from my first breeding of a sky blue clearwing clearflight YFTII hen to a dominant pied opaline cobalt cock, the chick is a blue dominant pied opaline YFTII, and if I am correct should be split to clearwing. Rocky doesn't have a pied spot I think his splotchiness if from the YF. this is a picture of Rocky at about 10 weeks he certainly was a find.
  11. I love the blues Rocky is my only "green" bird right now though, I dont want to lose my blues to the green gene and I'd really love more grey wings, but this is about what ya'll would breed him with not me!.. and your reason for choosing that particular mutation. Thanks for the reply Lovey, anyone else? oh and the chick I am keeping should be split for clearwing and she will be bred to him in '08.
  12. if Rocky were your bird what would YOU pair him with and why? Rocky is a; YFTII Muave Opaline Greywing cock. forgot to add, he MAY be a dark grey instead of muave as his cheek patches are dark slate, his over all color confuses me.

  15. Thanks, I may keep #3 and #1, #3 is deffinatly staying still considering #1, I dont really need another male but he's so sweet, he's never bitten, and how could you say no to him. :ausb: how green do you think #1 will get(I mean how dark of a green)?
  16. alright, some clearer pics of her head. these came out a bit blurry cause she was wiggling when the camera clicked
  17. The lighting washed their colors out a little bit. are breeders also breeding to produce birds that look like they have french molt.. or is that what is called buff? like this bird, I found this picture on a site Hath posted http://www.budgerigarsociety.com/images/ga...s/BIS_205-1.jpg this is why I am confussed about the standard, the bird in the picture looks like what I would consider a poorly marked opaline.. am I wrong in thinking this bird is poorly marked? is this the kind of bird you would expect to win BIS? I'm not trying to censure anyone but rather understand.

on all of the sites I've been to about english budgies I have seen mutation pics, but never see a good standard, and it never seems to match what people are breeding(people breeding heavier birds instead of the large breasted slender bodied birds in drawn standards) so does anyone know of a site(preferably from the U.S., unless the standards dont vary from country to country) that has pictures of birds that meet the standard?
  20. the pair is no longer together the hen was distracting the father from his feeding duties, so that eliminates the possiblity of a 3rd clutch(her first clutch was one egg that she sent flying out of the box), the male chick is the oldest and already very tame, I will remove him today.
  21. my male dom pied(boidie) has been bullying his male chick, the chick turned 5 weeks old on friday and is feeding himself, but when Boidie goes to eat he attacks the chick, or if one of the hen chicks is with the male chick the Boidie will go after the male chick, should I remove the male chick? he's not getting fed at all Boidie, I have 2 options if I remove him, I can put him with Rocky my other male, or I can put him in a smaller cage by himself, if I put him with Rocky there will be a fight over dominance but they will probly settle after that. so what should I do? the other 3 chicks are all being taken care of by Boidie and all but #2 are feeding on their own.
  22. I thought I had posted them but I guess not.. Name: Rocky Sex: Male Color: Grey Other Mutations: Yellowface Type II Opaline, maybe a Dark Factor Name: Sweetpea Sex: Hen Color: Sky Blue Other Mutations: YellowFace Type II Spangle Clearflight Pied
  23. if one was to breed a full body greywing to a diluted greywing(I know no such thing) what would the off spring be? would you get 50/50 or none.. or all full bodies ect.?
  24. I got a normal and 3 pieds, you can see pics of them in the breeders chat forum the post is "pics of my four"- http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=12199 so what does a DF dom. australian pied/clearflight pied look like? would it look the same as any other DF dom pied? anyway you just made me think of something.. but I guess that'll have to be another thread. :hap:
  25. Thanks, chicks 1, 2 and 3 are out of the box, I am concerned that the parents aren't feeding them :hap: and the hen is getting moody with the male chick so she's being removed from the cage tonight and hopefully Boidie will feed them.. none of them are eating on their own yet.
