My 2010 Journal
well little #1 died last night. The odds were so stacked against him from the start, he hatched late, when he hatched he had a vein hanging from his yolk, it dried out but during preening the hen must have pulled on it or something and pulled his insides out. I put him in an incubator and hoped it was just yolk and would withdraw on it's own. I got 3 meals into him, but he didn't make it. The hen knew something was wrong she left the box immediately and let me take him without any commotion. #2(first hatched) is still alive and doing well, they are feeding him and he's doing great, learning to stand up right like a big bird already. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...pictures032.jpg Today is #3's due date

My 2010 Journal
We got chicks, I helped #1 a little as he got chilled last night and made absolutely no progress in 12 hours. He's now out of the egg and squeeling a little bit, but he's not being fed. I think they did feed #2(first hatched) as his crop is yellow, he's also a little bigger than #1. here they are http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...pictures028.jpg This is #2(first hatched) do his eyes look plum? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...pictures030.jpg And little #1 close up http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...pictures029.jpg Hector is such a devoted dad, he's spent all morning in the box with his family.

My 2010 Journal
I'm hearing squeels from the box now, must be getting close. And last I checked #1 has finally pipped but #2 is likely going to hatch first.

New Budgie
dominant pied spangle opaline greywing I see blue bleeding into the head and back of the neck. I'm also tempted to say DF dom pied due to the amount of white on him.

My 2010 Journal
The egg marked #2 is pipped and vocalizing, hopefully by tomorrow morning it'll be out. #1 I either marked wrong(which I dont think I did because I tracked the developement) or is slow, but I hear tapping inside the egg and the chick inside is still alive. My 2010 Journal
This go she laid 3 eggs, last one was on the 28th. They are due to hatch on the 14th, 16th, and 18th. all appear to be fertile, I've candled all three and all seems well. I have a feeling that #2 may hatch early, it seems further developed than I'd expect it to be. Usually on day 5 you can see the heart beating, but it was visable in #2 on day 4 and is not clearly a developing embryo and it's body is visable as would eb expected for a 6 day old egg, not a 5 day old eggs. #3 is also showing signs of a heart, but no clearly visable veins, so it may be early as well. #1 developed as I expected. this was day 5 Hector spends a good deal of his time in the box with the hen, as a result the eggs have been rolled through some of his droppings.

Infertile Eggs
For an update I removed the eggs and they took a couple weeks off. She began laying again on the 24th. I candled the first egg while marking the second and it appears to be fertile, I'll know for sure in a few days. I've noticed Hector is spending most of his time in the box with her. My other male, Boidie, didn't even go in the box when I bred him. Boidie is the hens father, Hector is her mate.
-
Infertile Eggs
No, this is a breeding between two unrelated birds, the hen of the pair was previously bonded to her father, Boidie. Boidie was removed when the box was added, I dont believe the hen and Hector mated as a result of her being bonded to Boidie. I have candled the eggs every other day and they are still clear, one of them has developed spots like you'd see in an infertile chicken egg. Usually by day 5 of incubation you can see veins and the heart beating, by now I should see some development if they were fertile, but instead there's nothing but yolk. So you all would remove the eggs and not let them finish the incubation? She's being such a good momma and setting so well I dont want to upset her by removing the eggs before she's ready, any input on that? And how long would you remove the box for? the pair has apparently bonded now and Hector even goes in the box with her.

Infertile Eggs
My budgie pair laid 4 eggs over the last couple of weeks. #1 was laid on January 30th and #4 was laid on the 5th, I've candled them all and see no signs of being fertile. She's turned into an exceptional mom and her mate hector is also doing great. I believe the eggs are infertile due to the fact that she was paired with her father when they were all together and wasn't paired with hector when I removed the other birds and introduced the box. So, what would you all do in this situation? Would you remove the eggs? remove the box? let them be til they give up and try again? Thanks

Another Question About Hector
If he were split to cinnamon would there be any other indications? this is the hen he's paired with http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...ee/IMG_2195.jpg I blew up a photo of him when he was younger nd you can sort of see the color. The line across the eye is because he was mid blink.

Another Question About Hector
A while back I posted about my young cock bird Hector asking how many dark factors he had, I believe everyone agreed that he was a cobalt, sf dom. pied, goldenface. I'm currently pairing him up with a hen I produced in 2006, she's a skyblue sf dom pied, yf, opaline, /(possibly)clearwing. My question is; when Hector was younger his eyes were a deep plum color. As he's matured his eyes have turned a normal color. So is it possible he's hiding something and, if so what could it be? Thanks
-
What's His Color?
Hector is coming into his adult plumes. I snapped a few shots of him tonight. he hasn't lost all of his blue yet so you can compare the green and blue. I can't tell if he's violet or just dark, or how many dark factors he has(cobalt or muave) so here's my boy http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...k/birds/338.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...k/birds/336.jpg the flash did distort his colors a bit so heres a photo of him from earlier this year with natural light. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...k/birds/021.jpg

Violet Dominant Pied Yft2?
so the question remains, is he cobalt or violet? also in certian light his eyes look dark plum, assuming it's not just a strange reflection, would this mean he's split to cinnamon or something else? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...k/birds/017.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...k/birds/020.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...k/birds/022.jpg

Violet Dominant Pied Yft2?
he's got millet sprigs hanging by him, seeds, bird omlett and bird bread in cups and on a flat tray. he did have some millet this morning and has been vocalizing to the others.

Violet Dominant Pied Yft2?
I dont expect him to eat much today, just because it's a new environment, but he has already vocalized. he does have a yellowface but I can't tell which type right now. he was panting a little in the pics but has stopped that and is over all acting more calm. his poops look fine too.

Clearflight Pied?
to me they both look like YFT2 opalines and the one is clearflight pied. I say YFT2 because they both have blue on the breast area. there are some pictures of clearflight pied budgies in the "members budgies - variety of mutations" post at the top of the forum, the clearflights are in with the dominant pieds... the URL: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=9579

Rocky Again
we've discussed Rocky before, we know he's opaline and greywing, but his base color and actual body color was still a toss up. a few days ago I got these pics; it's more obvious in the first one that he has some muave patches on his lower abdomen and right by his wing, so does that make him a; YFTII opaline greywing with 2 darkfactors?

The Girls Need Names
For some reason #2 never seemed flattering, she has a unique black streak on her beak, not sure of it's cause it's been there since she was a few weeks old though. and #3, she has a V on the back of her wings, I think she needs a V name but haven't found one that seemed fitting. you can see #3's wings in this one, she has her back to the camera. they are both a lighter blue than the seem in the pics, the lighting was a little too dark.
