  1. Your aviary is looking pretty good so far The birds need natural sunlight so its up to you as far as coverage of the aviaries goes. Some people get worried about disease from wild bird droppings. You have to weigh up the risks in relation to sunlight which the birds need for vitamin D3 and it helping with absorption of calcium.
  2. Well, in that case looks like you have all boys. Got a new name for lily ?
  3. Lily and toothless are definitely males so Lily needs a name change. I am not yet totally convinced Atlas and Echo are males..........you saw the photos I posted about my females with the blue ceres ?
  4. Ummm................NO
  5. My birds get oranges and lemons and grapefruit with no ill effects. They will clean it up overnight......masses of it
  6. Rebecca will know what I mean
  7. I wouldnt be too quick to say Echo is a boy as many a female starts out with whiteblue ceres and Echo has white on the cere too. Better cere photos needed and no flash on camera please Here's mine female female and female see what I mean ? and echo is sky violet as already suggested by Nubbly
  8. Your pieds have nice markings. I am trying to breed up some pieds too. I love the contrast of their striking markings
  9. The vet did not grasp its importance and sometimes ( like real people ) vets tell fibs too
  10. Good to see you here Kaz aka Moggie
  11. My very best hen Omelette always plucked the down off her babies and stopped once they got pin feathers. You can try putting food ( millet sprays ) in her nestbox or something wooden to chew on.
  12. Purely guessing.......... but looking like they are constantly eating but they actually arent seems to be related to megabacteria. Megabacteria kicks in when other illnesses have knocked out the immune system. Bit like aids taking over a hiv infected person. Important thing when checking your flock isnt to look them in the eye or watch the pretty coloured birds flying about............best thing you can do is look up from under perches and check butts for signs of ill health and nip it in the bud before things take hold. Too many illnesses or signs of illnesses slip under the radar if you dont quite know what to look out for.
  13. I agree with both Dave and Splat.
  14. Nice looking pieDs ..............

Hey Maddy..........you are a perfect example of listening to good advice and following through when you can

Very professional Maddy............well done you and grand dad !!! I also have vertical banks that hold cages. Mine are on wheels for easy moving about and cleaning behind them. Give a woman tools and she will own the earth !!! LOL
  18. I have but we arent allowed to send it by post anymore as its flammable
  19. Suggestion......if you put a small bit of wood beading at the entry of the nestbox then when you open a nestbox you have less chance of an egg falling or being thrown out. Or you can cut your sliding nestbox lid into two...a two inch high section which is the bottom and the top being bigger and it just sits on top of the lower section.
  20. Please post a lost and found notice in our LOST AND FOUND section. It may help. Also Gumtree in your location as well as Petlink and other places.
  21. Not me this year but will be going in 2012
  22. Depending on the breeder Amy .....some or most breeders here in Perth you can absolutely guarantee there will be cinnamon in the cocks.
  23. The only time we ever get objections about us insisting on correct terminology of the budgerigar is by Americans laying claim to the term parakeet and english budgies or english parakeets. I am sorry, but this is true. Since the budgerigar is an Australian bird no matter where in the world it resides, I think we have the right to insist on correct terminology for our native budgerigar or budgie.
  24. You have done very well so far and GB has given you good advice. He is a recessive pied budgie from show budgie stock. His owner may be found if the details on the ring were recorded by you and posted here. At very l;east his breeder could be contacted. WIRES wont help with info on show budgie leg rings at all. Phone the vet back and ask for legring details. Budgies dont get constipation, but a dirty vent can get blocked by pasty faeces due to an illness. He could have just been ill due to the legring issue. Anyway he has a hero in you.........well done
