Not exactly. Brown and crusty is generally considered going past breeding condition. Light to medium brown is better as it will see them through. Dark brown and crusty is the later stage when it peels away to reveal white and blue underneath which is out of breeding condition. Also wait for age of 12 months but you know that...right

Looks that way Macka. My husband is very keen on the dogs. He sent Maggie off to get mated recently but the timing was off and it didnt work out. Stud fees being around $950 these days and a male cav for $700...........Ken decided to get a male cavalier so when Maggie is on heat next and if the young fella is old enough ....... :hug: Hmmm UPDATE The mating that suposedly didnt work out according to the owner of the stud dog...........DID :emoticon112: I have just got back from the vets and Maggie is pregnant.

Best and easiest way to breed them would be one pair to a cage with their own nestbox and no extra budgies in with the breeding pair. :emoticon112:

My Mum used to get my hair cut real short when I was little right through to teens........she didnt like the fact I had straight hair and not curly like my sisters, so she'd get it cut above my ears. I spent a lot of time as a kid wearing hats to cover up my bad haircuts. Later on she would trick me and take me to a visit to her friends who would then cut my hair as short as short again. This trauma resulted in me wearing my hair real long the rest of my life. Whenh I was 18-22 my hair reached down past my butt...it was that long. Now I still have long hair, although not as long as in my teens. My mother instilled a fear of short hair in me Suggestion.........when you go for your next haircut...........pick up one of their hand mirrors.....point it at the hairdresser and start watching...tell the hairdresser you will be watching to see she doesnt take too much off with a warning that you are sick of hairdressers who wont lkisten to what you ask of them.

Too soon to be talking success in a colony breeding situation Clancy. Heard the saying ? Dont count your chickens until they have hatched ? Talk success at the very end when you have happy healthy babies fledged with no broken eggs, budgie fights and dead chicks from invaded nests.

If it has nothing in the crop...feed it now at the nestbox and put it back under the foster mother or it wont make the morning.

My budgies cost me :- $120 per month for the base budgie seed ( premium breeder mix ) $ 60-$80 for additional seed varieties $ 100 month for vegies and soft foods. Average $ 50 month for supplements or additives, meds etc ?? per month for additonal power for birdroom and heating and light for hospital cage/kindie cage etc. The list goes on. Spend less on the birds to make a profit if you breed to sell. I dont. I breed for my show birds, rarely sell any. Give away some. Spend less on the birds and they usually suffer in some way or another. This is based on around 300 birds.

Yes and no. Temperatures where you live can affect the breeding pair and chicks. Too cold and hen often suffer egglaying issues. Easier to get eggbound in winter. Chicks hatched through the night can be dead by morning if not fed and pulled under the hen to be kept warm. Too hot and parents get off the eggs to get out of the hot nestbox. Some eggs dont make it because of this. Too hot in the nest will also cause stress for parents and chicks in the nest. Often more bacterial infections in the nest during summer. Water and food must be scrupulously clean and refreshed often during a hot day. A grain of seed on a birds beak and introduced to the water supply in summer will sour the water very very quickly as wilol droipings in the water turn it into a dangerous cocktail in a very short time in summer. Birds go into breeding condition ........when ALL THINGS ARE RIGHT not just weather, food, health, housing etc.
