Broken Eggs
If this ever happens again, never put them in the nestbox first as she will throw them out while preparing the box. Eggs stay in limbo for a week or more until they are incubated so you put them somewhere safe that isnt in the cage ( I use a seed cup and sit them on some seed ).......wait till the next egg is laid IN THE BOX and then add the others.

Sex Of Yellow Birdy Born 04?
If its a big 04 going around the ring then that wouldnt be the year of hatching. The year of hatching goes vertical on the ring........a symbol and the number 4.........not usually a 04. As far as the sex goes.......if you have had it for 5 years and the cere has never gone brown, that makes it male.

Omelette.....my Foundation Hen
If you think in terms of Omelette being and angel peach of a girl........then a deceased Budgie under a peach tree would be a flat peach As loved as she was and is, she can still make us smile PS Donut peach is what its called too

The Oldest And Youngest

Hello :)
Do not take that for the gospel truth. pet shops notoriously get it wrong. Coloured ceres yes................but not ADULTS.

Hello :)
Yeah, I have no idea on how to breed budgies lol, they're just getting "too" close now so I should prepare for when they decide to lay eggs lol. What's the first step to take? Make sure they are over 12 months before encouraging to breed by adding a nestbox. A coloured cere is no indicator of old enough to breed. They still look young. the young pair are both females.

Sexes Of My Two Recently Bought Budgies?
Both females. Why is the yellow one already in with the other ? Read up on quarantine. Seperate cage seperate room at least 5 metres away, different airspace and for a minimum of thirty days on its own.

Euthanasia.....a "forbidden" Topic
Thundra is recovering slowly.......as it turns out she was suffering from a lack of calcium and got partial paralysis. She can climb ladders and can perch for a little while right now. She is sharing a cage with the dilute cock that has "frozen"feet and ankles for want of a better term. and here is my new punk look "mock crested" hen who was attacked by others and scalped. sight test shows she can see

Omelette.....my Foundation Hen
I had to wait until today to get Omelette's remembrance fruit tree. I finally found the right one that "spoke to me" of the importance of Omelette :DI am about to pot her up and I have collected some feathers from all of her children and grandchildren to plant in the pot with her. This is the plant I chose ANGEL PEACH TREE - DONUT PEACH, Prunus persica http://www.plantnet.com.au/angel-peach-fla...-fleshed-peach/ The Angel Peach grows to approximately 3 metres by 3 metres, and displays a beautiful spring flush of pink flowers. PlantNet has two varieties of the Angel Peach which can be grown around Australia - a high chill variety, which fruits in January / February, for the cooler areas and a low chill variety, which fruits in December, for the warmer areas of Australia.Angel Peach - SubtropicalThe Angel Peach is a new form of peach, which has donut shaped fruit. It is a very sweet yellow fleshed variety, which is more soft and juicy in texture compared with standard peaches. Will crop in warm subtropical climates. Requires approximately 150 hours chill. Suitable from Rockhampton south to the subtropics and coastal NSW. ** I may have to plant it in the garden if it outgrows the pot further down the track ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ceremony over...Omelette is "planted" She is situated right outside the birdroom window and by the tap so I dont forget to water her

Sex Of Yellow Birdy Born 04?
Its a DF dom pied and as such is likely its cere wont go blue if male at all. DF Dom males usually have a cere that is both pink and blue at the same time. Read us off the ring details for clarification of actual age.

Interbreeding/inbreeding
when you find them on the floor of the aviary it is after the other budgies have had a go at them. They will eat a good bit of a dead budgie before you get to it most of the time. The missing feathers were from the other budgies doing it. Sometimes they will eat the face, beak and crack open the head and eat the brain as well. As far as inbreeding goes you can usually try half brothers and sisters, cousins, aunty to nephew etc. Grandchild to grandparent. There is little point in doing this at all unless you are breeding for show and have records of family history and congenital defects in a family line, or you are trying to cement certain features in a bird though a family line. There are topics on this on our forum. Use the search function and type in linebreeding and inbreeding and see what pops up

Why We Should Lock Our Aviaries
Locks wont do it alone if a person is determined to get in and take or kill your birds. AND when you think about it all they need is a pair of wire cutters in most cases to cause you a world of pain and heartache. Security cameras........the kind that arent visible may well be able to point fingers in the right directions after the event. Or a combination of all things. I use a few methods of security when not at home. But there is rarely a time where we are both away from home at the same time. I feel badly for this man who has had to pick the smashed body of his best bird off the floor It absolutely had to be a competitor who was losing his position due to this breeders birds. Shouldnt be too hard to work it out upon investigation one would think
