Idea For An Aviary
I'm planning to build a new aviary. And because it gets very cold in winter here, I was thinking about building an outside and inside aviary with a window between them. So the budgies can be in the outside one in summer and when it gets cold I can just open the window and they can fly to the other aviary. Does anybody have a similar aviary? And I'm just wondering, do you think I can somehow teach my budgies to sleep in the inside aviary? It might sound strange - like you teach chickens to sleep in a hen-house. I think it would be great, the budgies would be safely inside for the night. What do you think?

My Only Showing Budgie
I just fell in love I wanted to buy a gray showing female, but I have many females, so I got him. He is from a pet shop and he's missing the led band (there were other two showing budgies in the same cage with him and they had red leg bands), I didn't see he's missing it till I got home. I called the shop and they said they will contact the breeder and let me know, but they never phoned back - nasty people. But maybe it's better, I've heard that budgies get hurt often from these leg bands. I don't know if I'm going to breed budgies again, I'll see. But there is one little problem - Jupiter is in love with Shadow (male )

The Flock Shots
Thanks Daz, I just found your post in "aviaries section"- how to clean and paint zinc walls, so I wrote it down . I hope I can find some good paint here :hap:

My Only Showing Budgie
Thank you, I'm not the creative one here, my husband builds them (but I'm helping of course :hap: ). But I don't think wooden cages are that good anymore. They are very difficult to keep clean. I got desinfection from my vet and I spend the whole day cleaning them. So I decided to buy a new cage (metal one) - don't have pics yet. But not for long - we are buying a new house now with a huge garden (about 1500 m2), so I'm going to build two big aviaries (one for the budgies and one for the cockatiels) I can't wait I'll send pictures as soon as I make some

Your budgies look great Daz :hap: . And I love the aviary, what kind of metal are the sides and roof? Is it a normal zink roofing? I'm planning to build a new aviary soon, so I'm thinking what are the best materials to use. Did you build your aviaries on your own?

Fat Budgies
okay, I got a better scale. It's strange, but they are very various weights - from 30 to 72g How do I know which ones are too tin and which ones too fat? I know the extreme ones (under 40 are tin I guess, and above 70 are fat), but some of them are about 50,60, is it too fat already? Because some of them are bigger (showing genes maybe) and some of them are tiny. I want to separate them, so the tiny ones get more food then the fat ones. Please help

2 New Budgies
I actually picked them myself. I was just looking at them in the pet shop, because I didn't know that I'm allowed any more birds And Mark said I can have them It's funny when we met he hated all birds, now he helps me to take care of them I've read somewhere that Lutinos and Albinos are always girls - is it true? Do you know why?

Sick Budgie
Can they fly? One of my budgies has both of his wings, but carries them low all the time - he doesn't fly at all, but is healthy otherwise. I would definatly take them both to an avian vet for a check up.

Fat Budgies
My vet is an avian vet. Do budgies get liver problems often? I'm feeding them less and they are starting to look better, I think. I want to weigh them, but my kitchen scale is not good - it wouldn't give me the numbers exactly. So I'm looking for a better scale. I'll see if the diet helps and if not, I'll go to my avian vet again and I hope she'll do some tests to find out whats wrong.
