It could be the toys or it could be that he is going through a tempermental stage "hormonal" and will be going through a molt soon. I would make sure his cage is covered for at least 10-12 hours every night and you can always increased ti to 12-14 hours for a week until the behavior settles down. Also think back did he have just 1 bad experience trying to get him out of his cage (before the toys or even after?) just one experience can cause them to act this way and since you have forced him out now this is what he remember and will probably continue to act this way. I would work on having him come out on his own or on your hand in the cage and lure him with millet or his favorite veggie. Make your hand and coming out of his cage a positive experience again and don't force the situation. It may take a couple weeks if he jumps on your hand and eats the millet (treat) finish the training session like that and then slowly you can build back up to moving your hand around and taking him out. I would go back to square one.

Budgies molt every 3-4 months depending on the conditions and what you may find is that she is starting to go through a molt, this is also a time where they can become tempermental because they are going through hormone changes and turning into an adult budgie so it is like the "teenage" stage. You may want to cover her cage so she can't see the white snow (I doubt that is it too) but you can try and also make sure that she is covered for the night time at least 10-12 hours and when they go through this stage you can actually increase it to 14 hours for a week and then decrease again.

  14. I agree with Dean decide on your pairs and then let us know there are so many possiblities that you someone can't take each female and put it with each male and vs versa. We have a genetic section in our FAQ's too to learn more about Mutations and which ones are dominant and recessive. Good place to start is to know that Green is dominant over Blue. 2 Green Birds with not carrying the blue gene will always produced all green chicks. 2 Blue birds will always produced blue chicks The color variation of the blue or green will be determined on if the bird is carrying no dark factors, 1 or 2 dark factors and you can tell that by the shade of the blue or green. That is explained in our FAQ section too.

It is very normal for a hen's cere to change from a light tan to a crusty brown back to a whitish pink it varies. When it is darker brown it is when the hen is in what is known as breeding condition.

being he is new I wouldn't putt anything off especially if he is scared and you want to tame him. I would leave it and let him clean himself first if you find it is sticky I would suggest an avian vet visit. What do the dropping look like on the ground?
  18. Cathy it will be great to have you back
  19. I would start with 1 companion not 2 because those 2 if you get them from the same place may be bonded. I would stick with an even number and I always like just having males (my opinion) because you don't have to worry about having unwanted babies. If you get 1 male and decide to do some breeding later then you can intro a female (s) at later date. Whatever you chose to make sure that you do a 30 day quarantine meaning any new bird introduced should be in a different room, different cage and not introduced until the 30 days is up this ensure that the new bird is healthy and doesn't get your existing bird sick.

Keep us updated and when you cover him make sure it is a thick cover to help block out the light and make sure it is long enought that he can't climb on the bars to spots where he can see you, I would keep him in his cage until he is quiet and then wait about 5 mins so he can relate quiet or good behavior with being let out.

I would say I believe some of it and others stuff is a bit iffy but I can tell you that since my dad has passed in 2005 I always feel that he is by my side especially in the little things in life. When I tend to loose things, or when I am faced with a decision I feel that he is guides me and that instead of using anger of have become more passive and thought things out and try to use kindness instead. For those skeptics it could be that his death changed me to think different and I believe that but I always believe no matter what he is looking out for my mom, my sister and myself.

Don't give up just because he flew away we have a good article in the FAQ about how to go about finding your budgie. You will be surprised how many budgies can be found again, and you will see some at the humane society or the local pound because of it. I would read the articles and certainly give it a go on leaving flyers, calling the local vet offices in your area, the shelters etc... Sorry to hear he flew away. I am going to move this post to the Lost and Found Budgie Section, maybe you can post more pictures of him of him and more information. (but not a phone number) you can tell someone to contact you privately.

My only suggestion to stop this behavior is to put him back in his cage and cover his cage this is a negative action that he won't like and if learns when he makes this noise nothing comes good from it he will stop. It may take a week for a couple days for him to get it and it may get worse in the beginning where he will call even more if you put him in the cage but they are smart and can relate that if I do this this good or bad can happen.
