Carrying Violet?
All Yellow Face 2 do not up completely green it depends on individual gene on that particular bird. Do you have a picture you can post of him? It sounds like he probably is carrying the gene but a picture would help determine it. When you take a picture of a violet bird do it in the sunlight or on a sunny day by the window that is best I know violets are so hard Merlin's color is hard to capture too. The flash makes him too blue or sometimes washed out so with no flash is best.

We Want To Do The Right Thing, But Don't Know What That Is!
You know if you feel it is the right thing to do in your heart I say go for it get Billy a friend, I would go with another male, you could get a baby bugdie or you could look into rescuing a budgie around Billy's age. He is so social and adjusted that if you can find a bird with a similar personality as Billy I feel that your bond with him will be kept. Don't get a fearful bird because that could reverse him if you can work toward getting a baby that has been handled or an older bird that is tamed. I only advise against it if a you just got the bird and you are trying to form a bond, had a bird for a while and now want to form a bond but that is not the case. We had another member Bea, who had a budgie very similar Blinkie and she got him a friend named Ozzie she kept the bond with Blinkie. I do remember she said he stopped talking but the bond she had with him was not broken. So I say GO FOR it if that is what is in your heart. Remember, you will have do a 30 day quarantine so make sure you have an extra cage it can be a smaller one for quaratine and make sure that the cage you have now is suitable for 2 budgies or more . Glad you came back and Billy is so handsome.

Yes you can get budgies here all the time it is the "show type" AKA English type that are not found commonly in the pet shops, but you can find the "pet type" AKA American at almost any pet store...in fact they are bird rescuse organization here for those people who impulse buy and dont' commit to their pet budgie and now we have budgies that need homes.

the good thing is that many of his questions really help us out with the FAQ's , but if you are writing a book make sure you give BBC and the members credit

What Items/medications Should I Ask For From The Vet
There are good valid points made by Kaz & SW and I agree with them all. When you look at it from a vet persecptive and then also an owners view they are all valid and important. In fact, I have really refrained from saying anything in this post because that was the first thing that popped into my head but I didn't want to start anything and look like I was accusing anyone of wrong doing. I do believe we should not self diagnosis especially with our birds they are just too fragile. Any new bird owner coming here and there are a lot may feel that they can just self diagnosis or say tell me what antibiotics to take. This is why I refrain from putting medication information about treating birds for this or that in the FAQ's, I don't want this forum (Adam) to be responsible for self medicating and this post is exacting doing that (intentionally or not that is what it is doing). There was actually in a recent post where a member didn't quarantine and that is what she said "just tell me what antibiotics to buy", not good for any forum that is advocating good bird knowledge. I see where you are coming from MB too though. I have had left over Amoxcillin and if I feel that sore throat coming I will take it even if it wasn't prescribed for me, should I go and get a culture yes but everytime I do it never comes back with anything but a virus and the antibiotics clear it up in 2 days much better then suffering through the pain for sure but I probably should have not done it because it wasn't for me and I shouldn't self diagnosis.

Trampolines...
Got it I am sure they are hear but never saw them, I assume they promote them to be safer but when you are jumping and flipping you can get hurt no matter what.

Head Spot Discussion
got it so really it can come from any breeding pair the spot period indicates a carrier as a recessive pied, how about the spangle pied mark what are your thoughts on that
-
Joint Breeding
I was curious you know I have read that many a budgie that won't breed is looking for a nice bright green budgie, the grey green is more dull.

Chlamydia Psittaci
This is something I agree with even with my kids, I try to keep them off antibiotics and so does our MD because of the super virus out there. I know that we need to ensure our birds are healthy but if you give antibiotics when they are not sick or showing signs that could potentially weaken their immune system vs keeping them healthy because what happens when they are off the antibiotics when they are not sick they then get sick? Just thinking out loud.

Quarantine Advice Please-
I did some googling to read up on this subject. I am sorry I didn't answer earlier. Here is an website that I came up with that can help us all http://www.purifierpro.com/pathogens.shtml - they are considered airborne pathogens.

I was going to say that Kaz yes a dominant pied can be split for recessive. I am still waiting to hear from Lisa, I may never LOL but when I send her updates she responses so we will see. Neville, you know what you are talking about so I believe you :party0011:. So do you think it is just from a normal to a pied pairing that could make such a big spot?
