  1. My oppinion is this. Tommy has hurt (possibly fractured his wing, hence the reason he cant fly, and holds it out an an angle after attempting to flly) Beaky looks to me like he is being plucked. I doubt its self traumatisation, I think Tommy is doing it to him, possibly because he (Tommy) is in pain. Both these birds need a visit to the vet, and they also need to be seperated for a while at least. You can still have the cages side by side so they dont pine for each others company. Vet visit asap, and seperate asap my advice.
  2. Excellent post. I found a link to add here which may be of help also.. http://www.birds2grow.com/art-scalyface.html

Hi, so far it seems like only the USA websites do them. BUT if you have PayPal, or a credit card, they will ship to UK, and the extra postage really isnt that much
  4. Thankyou Terri, that is a beautiful piece, I thinks its actually annonymous. I have pinned this because it is perfect for here. Anne
  5. Hi kayKay, Ive edited the title for you, as it was a bit stomach churning and you seemed a bit concerned about it yourself. Hope you like this wording better

I wouldnt mind a bite of that myself Smily!
  7. I dont think the breeder betrayed your trust, he's just set in the old ways of a single wing trim (or, in this case, more like a hack) Even some vets still offer to trim one wing, which surprises me greatly. Dont go blaming yourself, you didnt ASK for a hack, and his flights will grow back in time. He really is a gorgeous litle bird, isnt he, I could just pick him up and snuggle that sweet little body
  8. Oh my Lord, I thought the guy had cut off a WING! he hasnt, thank (my) God! A one wing trim. clip etc, is NOT good. Imagine trying to RUN in a stiletto ansd a trainer, you are destined for a mishap. His over clipped wing WILL grow back, But I would strongly sugest a good trim of the unclipped wing in the meantime, to give him a sense of balance. Im sure he MEANT no harm, but this guy dosent know POO about safe clipping. My guess is that he is in his 50's, or near enough? Im open minded to wing clipping, I dont LIKE it, but I do believe it has its place (my RB2/Galah cockatoo) MUST be kept clipped, as he has a neurological disorder. He can not even run across the floor without falling over. In flight, he can risk, and does, quite severe harm to himself. So, my beautiful wild firend must be robbed of his most precious gift, FLIGHT. I dont like taking it from him, but I do, and I always will. This guy has made a pigs bottom of clipping your birds wing, but it CAN be rectified. His complete wing needs a trim, a constant trim, until both wings match up, then, I hope, you will see fit (tame or untame) to let your bird be a bird. Im not dissing you, Im itching with irritation at this guys method. Planet of the Apes comes to mind. Let your avian vet soothe this unbalanced passage with a proffessional clip on the complete wing, until the balance is back. Then, ether trim BOTH wings LIGHTLY, or let him be free flighted, as his God intended. In all warmth, Anne
  9. Do the angels eyes light up when you switch the tree lights on?? :(Laughing out loud):
  10. Pixie, just off hand I cant think of the address, and my paperwork is locked in my drawer upstairs. I shall get it for you. Its down south, ether essex or berkshire I think. But I shall let you know for deffinate. Bria, in the main, you can not beat a little budgie as a pet, they are cheeky, confident, curious, friendly. My Snowy has never tamed up, but she is not afraid of me at all now. Chip (a 'tiel) is much calmer, and probably will become tame-ish. He was very badly abused. I had an African Grey with me who would much sooner take a chunk out of you thatn accept you, yet 5 weeks down the line I was cuddling him. You see, a lot of my birds have been from horrific circumstances. But dont let this put you off! If you have a young, carefully reared budgie (males tend to tame up better, but hens can also be fabulous pets) you will get a fantastic little friend. Do a search on Teapot or Blinks for some idea of how amazing they can be.
  11. Two of the best pictures and captions Ive seen in ages (Laughing out loud)! That is brilliant!

Ooooh! He is a Walter! Sweet Walter the Dignified little Budgie!
  13. Oh hpw sad I am to read this. My heart goes out to you. Please, despite your pain and loss at this sad time, follow Lins extremely good advice, and get the other sweet bird checked. Id recommend that he was put on a course of anti-biotics anyway, it can only do good in a situation such ast this. Deepest condolences for your loss. Anne

Get this bird to a vet, like NOW! Please! It is badly injured and traumatised from what you have said. An avian vet is best, but if thats not possible, just get it the first vet that will see you. In fact, I wouldnt even make an appointment, I dash that bird in so fast my feet wouldnt touch the floor. Please get this bird help now!

It really should be done gradually, drastically reducing his food intake so suddenly could cause him(her) awful stress and even discomfort.

My Teapot didnt lose any of his tameness once he was introduced to Snowy, my wild at heart rescue budgie. Now that they also share the room with 3 cockatiels (one of which is a timid little thing) he is still just as tame. Id go for it, it cant hurt. And spending quality time working on building up trust between your little bird and you can NEVER be a waste of time. Anne
  18. Hi Boomberry, and thanks Pixie for mentioning the ACEhigh, and youre right, I do swear by it. A tiny sprinkling of the food can, from my personal experience, work wonders. Boomberry, even if it freaks yur bird out in the short term, Id still risk that happily than to have him irritated and possibly very uncomfortable long term, so Id certainly take him to the vet. He may need a course of ivermectin to erradicate the possiblility of mites.(Im not overly trusting of over-the-counter medications for mites) Also, misting him with warm water with pure aloe vera juice mixed in it can be very soothing ( I use around 15% aloe to water) I hope you get to the bottom of his problems, and would appreciate it greatly if you share with us his progress. Good luck! Anne

  20. Hi, have you tried pressing your finger very gently up against the lower part of his stomach? You have to be gentle enough NOT to push him backwards of his perch though, or he will then see your finger as a threat. Another thing you can try is tempting him with his most favourite treat (usually millet). Hold finger of one hand gently against his stomach, gently but firmly repeating the command 'up, up, up...'' and in the other hand, hold the treat, just out of his reach, so that in order to get it, he must step onto your finger. Hope this helps. Anne

Alberta, it sounds like you are coping supremely. The BEST advice I can give you is to ring your/ or ANY avian vet for telephone advice. The slightest mis-hap regarding mixing could kill this much loved little baby of yours. Most avian vets will give telephone advice in emergencies, which I would class this as. Let us know how things go! Anne

Hi Matt, Ive moved this to the breeders section, as I think you will have more chance of getting help here. I think breeding related people will be more likely to have answers for you. Anne

Counselling may help this sad excuse for a man Caren, he clearly has quite a severe disability himself in the upper levels. Good luck in your search for new additions! Have you ever considered contacting the local (if there are any) rescues? Often they have lots of budgies and smaller birds in because people seem to only want the larger species when it comes to rescue. Just another avenue for you to consider. Keep us informed how things go! Anne

THE ANGEL I came to you without a choice, you picked me for your friend. So all I ask is that you care for me until the end. My life may be a few short years, or 3 score years and ten, So when Im not ?the perfect pet? will you still love me then? I know my sweet and funny ways will bring laughter to your heart, But will you feel as warm to me when all the troubles start? When my natural instincts surface, and confusion makes me scream, When despair at being trapped sets in? Will I STILL be your dream? Will you still give me loving care and help me through my pain, Stand by me ?till my traumas cease and I can make you smile again? Or will you pack me up and send me broken, on my way, Then lament to all who?ll listen just how much YOU hurt this day? I have no say in what you do, my life is in your hands, But this small thing I ask of you, ??Please, will you understand??? If I should tear my feathers out despite how much you care, Will you still think Im beautiful, and be proud that I am there? Can you can give me all these things, and love without condition, When my final journey beckons me, will you give me your permission? If you can see my time is up, and Im needing to escape, Will you please hold me one last time, through that journey I must make? If you can do these simple things, and never think your efforts vain, And not resent the love you gave throughout our joys, despite the pain, Then you will be my angel here on earth, my whole life through, And from here, and for eternity, I will be your angel too. A.M.Kenyon
