Huey isn't well!
Kim, is your vet an Avian vet? If not, do you have an Avian vet in your area/ Obviously, you yourself are well aware that this shouldnt be happening. (to be honest, Ive NEVER heard of such a thing as a budgie being sick because its wolfed its food down too fast!) Also, daytime sunlight wont hurt him, so long as he's not in the full glare (and in my oppinion, this is more likely to lead to respiratory problems rather than constant vomiting) How long have you had his current batch of seed? Is it possible its gone sour? Was a probiotic provided with the anti biotic? And were you given any vitamin/mineral suppliments to help replace the nutients etc that he is losing through this vomiting? It sounds to me (this is NOT a diagnosis, I am not in any way veterinary qualified) like there could be an acute crop infection. Has this been mentioned at all? Sorry about all the questions, but they may help us give you a bit more advice. (Again, it is only advice/guidance, we are not qualified to diagnose) I am going this very minute to do some research for you, and I will be right back. Anne okay, am back. Here is one very good link, just scroll down until you come to 'vomiting'. I shall be back with more shortly. http://www.budgerigars.co.uk/diseases/fancier.html This may be worth testing for, Giardia A Giardia infection in psittacine birds may be asymptomatic or the birds may exhibit signs of weight loss, bulky or loose foul-smelling stools, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, depression, and recurring yeast infections. Dry skin and feather picking is typical in budgerigars and cockatiels suffering from Giardiosis.

What are these black spots?
sounds like pin feathers to me, they are just new feathers coming through.

Bald but still my babe !
I feel for you, when a vet utters those dreaded words, its very hard to absorb. I do hope there is a cure, or at least some form of ease for your precious budgie. I have the feeling that if such ease or cure isnt forthcoming, you will return with your bird to the vet. Its a horrible decision to make if you become faced with it, but often, the kindest final act of love that yu can give your bird. IF it comes to that, when I have faced this in the past, I always insist on a whiff of anaesthesia for my animal first, so the creature is sleeping and totally unaware of any injection in its last moments. It makes it a lot easier for both you and the bird. My thoughts are with yu both Anne.

Bald but still my babe !
Cal, there is another test your vet can do, the feather pulp test. If your dear little bird loses a good biggish feather (ie a flight ot tail feather) rush the feather to the vets as fast as possible. They can in certain circumstances tell far more from the feather pulp that they ever can from bloods. Anne

Trip to the Vet
heh, thats okay, I have a huge pink and grey cockatoo called Queenie, who speaks in a marilyn Monroe voice, but she's a BOY, (Laughing out loud)! And he says ''Queenies a GOOD girl'' bless him

Trip to the Vet
Excellent way of thinking and acting Zoe! Take some fresh-ish samples of Dollys works of art, the vet can tell a lot from faecal smear testing. Dolly dosent sound quite 'right', and you are doing the very best thing. I hope she bounces back quickly and easily, please keep us informed, and very best of luck to you both! Anne

how long does it take?!
Hi! It can take many weeks before your budgiewill talk. My Teapot says loads, but it took weeks and weeks till he said his first word, he was about 5 months old then. After that there was no stopping him! Many budgies object to being stroked, they will fly to you, happily sit on yu, but often its a case of DONT TOUCH ME!

Beak Appetite & Wheat Grass
I'll just throw this in seeing as its a food/diet discussion.. When any of my birds, budgies/cockatoo, turn their snooty ittle beaks up at something, i add a teeny bit of tomato sauce! Not a lot, cos its sugary, but it sure gets their beaks downwards towards food, rather than upwards in disdain! :budgiedance:

flying problem
I would say there is a possibility of a fracture or a dislocation. You bird needs to be taken to the Avian Vet right away, if there is a serious injury, the faster its treated, the more chance he has of regaining flight. He could be in quite a lot of pain aswel. If there is a fracture, your vet may prescribe some anti-biotics to prevent infection setting in. Id certainly class this as potentially very serious, and more than worthy of an emergency vet appointment. Anne.

Broken Wing!
you'll have to keep a very close eye on him now that his wing is in a 'sling'. Has he got a seperate cage that you can adapt as a disability cage auntil wing is healed? If you need help or guidance with that I can give it you. If he is left flightless, then he will probably need an adapted cage for the rest of his life, a fall off a high perch will be extremely dangerous to him. Has he been given any antibiotics to ensure that infection dosent set in in the fracture? (and hopefull pro biotics to counteract the side affects on his gut floras?) He'll have to be closely monitored for getting his foot caught in bandage or he may end up with a broken toe or foot aswel, or losing a claw. Just another quick point, be sure to pad the bottom of his cage well, so if he does tumble before you adapt it(if you havent already) at least he will have a cushioned landing. Donr use towelling as his claws culd get tangled in it, soft fleecey material is better, with a layer of newspaper on top.

Blood Tests
Just letting you know that I hadnt forgotten to try and gain more information from the pictures. The feedback I got was pretty much the same as here (actually not as good, information wise) Please let us know how you get on, and keep us updated. Anne.

Broken Wing!
im hoping that this is a good sign, no replies i mean. hopefully its because our family member Ktsmurf is bust at vet :dbb1:

Broken Wing!
VET! This is urgent. If his wing is broken or dislocated, and not treated ASAP, then asides from the torment of the sickening pain, this bird may NEVER be able to fly. I cant think of anything worse! He MUST be taken to a vet as soon as possible, sooner even! Wing clipping should only be done by a professional, or a very experienced person. I feel sick inside thinking about what damage has been done to the little thing. Please, get him to the vet NOW, dont even ring up, just turn up and tell them it is an emergency. Let us know what happens, how he goes on, please? Good luck Anne
