Kaz i know we managed to get a couple of hens (normal green) at the last melton auction but this proved to be unfruitful one died onn the way home and the other has had two rounds but has yet not filled an egg..................Have tried to breed them via dominant pieds this has also been unsuccessful to date out of 4 pair of Dom Pieds with only one parent being a pied out of 56 eggs result so far are 4 eggs failed to hatch 4 opalines 4 cinnamons 40 dominant pieds and 4 too young to tell but 2 look like pieds. Also tried to do via using a spangle as a normal have bred nearly all spangles we have 2 in the nest now that appear to be normal green,So am happy to look at anything so if you have any anybody am happy to talk to you Cheers TAZ D

I am the opposite here, i have bred some nice light greens and dark greens, loving it. More dark greens than lights which is great.

KAZ thanks happy to pay organise freight...............................Renee hi for sure for sure it gives you the s////s the only consolation is that their is some real handy pieds amongst them. Our main blooodline is from David Bishop in Hobart and he concentrates on opalines and cinnamons so we have to look elsewhere for normals.....................Splat hi and well done on your success would nearly (only nearly) give my left one for some handy greens dark or light.......................as stated they are a rarer variety down here with only nine or ten birds shown at our last show.accross three grades (Novice,Intermediate and Open) So those that havem dont let em go cant say i blame them . So there is the problem. KAZ back to you why dont we have a TOPIC called WHINGE OF THE DAY Cheers TAZ D

Thank you Taz my feet have hit earth now lol, and it's official start of 2012 I am in open, scary.

As for my darks they are not going anywhere, they are all offspring to my gorgeous stunning violet green.

I kicked myself the other week because we have this new beginner starting and I tried to help her out and parted with one of my best like greens.

SPLAT we know what you mean we walked on air for a couple of weeks after our national win we like you have been intermediate for five mths and are one win away from open................. We like you have helped a novice with some really nice birds and after 18mths they decided to quit the hobby (note hobby) and then wanted us to buy back the birds we had gifted him talk about a bloody cheek so am now selective in who we help CHEERS TAZ D

Look if it's any consolation Double Factor Green or Dark Green Normals are few and far between over here too so you are not alone in trying to breed them yourself. wink.gif

And yes it is incredibly frustrating to discover your otherwise perfectly good Green cock bird is split. However, you soon learn to to ask the questions before buying and in the end I think it is more satisfying when you get your own line going. smile.gif

Well I have been lucky because I know my violet greens dad who is violet is split cinn and op but every chick the violet has thrown is normal so far, so I am guessing he is not split for anything, YES. But I wouldn't care if he was anyway.

Best way to get them is to breed your own, especially hens.

Bit of a budgie-egg scenario though isn't it.
