My New Birdroom (start To Finish)

I envy you, that's fantastic work In like 8 years' time, when I'm twenty one, I'm planning on moving to Dongara into my Nan and Pops farm and ask if I can live on their land there. I'm gunna see if I can have the land that has heaps of sheds and turn all of them into aviaries and breeding cages etc but of course, I'll build a house first

Here's where I am up.

 

This on the out side where the 1st part of the building meets the second part, it had normal bird wire it and PCV plastic but there was also a big hole in the tin down the bottom, the mice had a field day getting in,

So I put the mouse proof wire over everything.

 

This is the driveway side of the birdroom, It had big gaps up the to where the tin didn't meet the top, unbelievable but true anyway I screwed the mouse proof wire there and put wire up the gaps and shoved steel wool in any big gaps. I had to but 10 packets of the stuff. Then I screwed the tin on top so the mice can't run along on the wire. I think it will work a treat.

This is the aviary but I have to pull the alum off to change the wire, I am replacing the wire with mouse proof tomorrow, but I used the alum to cover the caps of the corragated iron.

 

This bit is the first part, my kitchen, I have to put some tine over it yet so the mice can't run along it.

This is the end part the breeding room and I have sealed the gap between the garage and the roof, very pleased

with how it went. I siliconed it too

 

Tomorrow I am changing the wire in the baby aviary and try and fix the gap between the garage and the roof in that part.

Really want to use it again Renee so have to do the hard work. I want the babies in the aviary by the weekend, so I can put the adult birds back in their aviary, at the moment I have all adults in one aviary and babies in another and culls in the little cage and I want to bring out the breeding birds but there is no room for them.

Plus I want to make the old bird room into 2 aviaries 3ft by 7ft long each.and a small area to hold birds or breed trouble birds next year. There will be enough room for 3 double cages. The old room is 11 feet long and 6ft wide. The old bird room is much cooler than the new one because it doesn't get any after noon sun because of the garage.

Today I didn't get around to the aviary, I got side tracked fixing the dumb door that leads from out side into the birdroom. Didn't take photos but will tomorrow. But i have to admit I did a wonderful job if I do say so myself lol, very pleased with the end result and it is mouse proof, YES.

I also put some angle up above the door that leads into the birdroom from the avairy but first I had to use the angle grinder to even the tin up. I am always worried Geoff will cut his head when he walks through because he is very tall and hasn't much hair, sorry Geoff. but at least you won't cut your head now, and I was thinking of you when I did it. lol

I see you've used the steel wire wool. Yes, I used boxes and boxes of the stuff but so long as it doesn't get rained on I found it to be very effective

Yes Renee I used it but the rain can't get to it so it should be good.

I am using that foam stuff too even though Kaz says the mice eat the bloke at Bunnings reckons they don't so we will see.

But I use it a while ago out side my old bird room and mice have not touch it at all and that's when there were hundreds of the little beggers, so that is a little indication that it is not to bad in my view.

Hi all..

Well I have been very busy, I have done the door put mouse proof wire on the 3 doors and the aviary. sealed inside aviary next to the garage. Gave it a bit of a rough paint job too.

the way is is now, have to admit I think I did a great job with door really happy with it.

Now I have to fill up the gaps from the corragated iron with the foam stuff and then screw some wire from the roof frame to the garage using some box aluminum so the birds can't get to it.

I think I have found all the places mice can it .

I still have the kitchen area to do yet.

lol no I don't Flip, just not doing the house work etc. lol.

I only spend about an all up a day doing this.

All that work is over week or more. I am just desperate to put the babies

in the aviary. still have heaps to do yet.

I have all my adults in one aviary and it is crowded and I have

another dozen to bring out of the birdroom but no room for them.

 

I use to have hens in one aviary and cocks in the other and my little middle aviary holds culls

but I had the babies in there but they were going nutty. So I put all the adults together

and put the babies in the large aviary and I already notice the difference in their behavior.

I remember being told early on to keep the adults all together as the hens could get lazy all on their own - the cock birds keep them on their toes!

Ahh... okay Well, I'm a lucky cookie, because when I get my own house, the actual house is gonna be tiny, and then there's gonna be heaps of birdrooms Awesome thing is: No neighbours living in a 30km radius XD

Hehe, all thanks to my Nan and Pop, I'm gonna live at their 21 acre? farm up in dongara I'll make a visit to Perth every month to do some selling, well that's my plan anyway
