Thanks Renee :) You have no idea how excited I am....actually you probably do :) You would have been at this stage once hahaha

YES! I remember it only too well as it wasn't all that long ago. :D Running around trying to find second-hand breeding cabinets, getting appropriate aviaries and putting them on pavers, building aviaries, setting up the garage/breeding room, sourcing show cages and breeding boxes and putting them together and not to mention buying the breeding stock to get started .... ah those were the days! :)

Thank goodness they are behind us now! If I knew what it took before I jumped in with both feet (as I am inclined to do) I don't know whether I would have B)

Gotcha! Only kidding :P I wouldn't have it any other way. :D

Oh well the birds are sort of all over the place in different cages in different areas of the house and yard as the birds are still in quarantine - I am actually planning on introducing Santa and Mrs Claws to Cinnamon and Sprite tomorrow. I have another 9 birds from Kaz to go in but they are still in quarantine.

I shall get some photos tomorrow....if I can find where I placed the camera - I've had budgie brain lately and keep putting things down to go see all the birds, then can't find where I put everything whoops hahaha :D

Happens to the best of people! :rip: I remember calling Kaz once and she put the mobile down and held a budgie to her ear :D I still chuckle to this day when I picture it!

Ahem yes well about those - blame Kaz ^_^ - it was all her idea ;):D She decided I needed more

haha just joking. Kaz so very kindly gifted me some birds - and most are rather amorous and adventurous cocks.. Least I know they're ready and raring to go when I start them breeding

Looks great!!! Do you have wire under the shade cloth roof??? I'd be inclinded to do so as they'll chew their way out of it I would think.

I was going to answer, but KAz beat me to it haha :D Yes I definitely have the wire. I just built the shade cloth into the framework of the aviary.

Well Done Amy! :D Glad to see 'the bug' has bitten. Please come to the MBC Championship Show on Jan 23rd 11-12 for meet and greet! :)

I am planning on it and very much looking forward to it! Would love to meet you, and every other budgie nut around!

You are doing a wonderful job Amy.

Please do not apologise for the number of pics. I think it is great!!

Thanks so much!! :D

AGREED!!! Not only do pictures make it more enjoyable to follow, they help others who are/want to build their own avairy as well... The only limit to the number of photos you can post... is how many the forum will allow... then you just wait till someone else replies and post more :D

I noticed when I was trying to post more pictures that they kept adding to the previous post I had done, so I waited until someone else had posted and then I added more! :P

I do completely agree that apart from everyone enjoying photos, like we all do - it gives brilliant ideas, information and suggestions - which I totally love. There have been numerous ideas to my dream aviary which I have taken on board and my plans are beginning to look a bit different from when I started. :D

i really love your aviary darl im looking at getting two more myself

i did the build my own one thing and so far its still not finished and has cost me the price of mabe three ready built 8 by 6 feet aviary

which is what i wanted to get in first place

grr ,....dad is so helpful it does my head in

i just wish i could get it finished lol been a year now and still heaps to do

im actually thinking of selling it and just buying ready made ones

like i was going to but would brake dads heart :D so im stuck with what i have for till i at least can buy a few more

in which i wont tell my dad im going to do

it would been great if i could get help to finish it off but dads getting sicker all time and i have no one else to help i did offer a few people money to help me finish but that didnt happen either , it was quiet a bit of money too B) but oh well . so now im just going to get one kind of like yours if i can find one

Oh thank you :) I keep fiddling around with ideas - I've now decided I want to try and incorporate some suspended flights into the plan - which would make things alot easier, but as the new aviary is a prefabricated one, I can't quite modify the ends without removing them completely.

i'm sure I shall think of something :D

GB - If I were in Melbourne, I'd gladly come and help you with your aviaries. I wouldn't do it for money, but for the love of our feathered friends and to help you. xox (bonus would be my being able to view your birds :D :D )

:D Thank you

That's okay, I understand completely. I haven't been able to do much lately anyway as i've been going on so many job interviews and trying to source a childcare service in case I do happen to get a job...need to fund the ever increasing budgie hobby somehow! :)

I like to help whenever I can :)

Were you meaning something like this GB?

This is what I was trying to upload, but couldn't until I found a better program (courtesy of defieldsfamily - thanks for that :D )

The measurements aren't quite accurate, but you get a general idea of what i'd like. Now I need to try and do it in 3d for better viewing.

Amy do you know what brand that aviary is? It looks like a great one, and will incorporate into your dream plans well. Look forward to seeing it fill up with budgies ^_^

What are your plans for both flights at this stage? Are you planning on breeding in one and having non breeders in the other, or will you be breeding elsewhere and seperating your birds male/female or young/old?

Both these flights at the moment have six budgies in each side. As it is not anywhere near ready for breeding, I am happy to let the birds relax and enjoy flying and enjoying each other's company.

When the birdroom is added, and the third flight is attached everything may or maynot change. The third flight will be the babies/junior flight. The first and second, i'm still deciding whether to have:

mixed cocks and hens

hens one side and cocks the other

breeders in one and non breeders in the other

Junior flight graduates in one side and adults in the other OR

have one side for the retirement home :(:) Even as Old timers, past their use by date I know they will be beneficial - maybe there will be an older hen who will quite happily foster some babies for other hens who can't cope well, or there may be an older cock who decides he can keep up with a maiden hen and teach her. Who knows?

I don't want breed any of the birds until i' 100% satisfied I can provide for them and the aviary is done :raincloud:

Just wondering if someone could help with my birdroom?

I'm in the process of sorting measurements and trying to finalise my breeding room plans.

Is 1.9 Metres wide x 1.7 deep x 1.8 high suitable for 3-6 breeding cabinets? These are the measurements I think will work for my birdroom but not sure if its enough space or suitable? Or is it okay for my first birdroom?

These are the proper measurements I have and the final layout providing its suitable. I know it looks the same as all the other plans but I want to make sure it's done right before adding the birdroom and junior flight

Looks good Amy and your birdroom should be fine. The average breeding cage is 2 ft wide ( 600MM ) and around 450mm high and you can stack them. Make sure there is space under the bottom one and not too close to the ceiling height as the top ones get hot in summer.

and its all good :bump:

ooh thanks for the cabinet measurements Karen.

I was thinking of making them two cages wide and 3 high - if the average cage is 60cm and im doing two which will make 120cm then i have 70cm space left at the side and would leave around 70cm from the roof, or are my calculations out of whack? I hate math

OR maybe I could do a corner one cabinet - gosh endless posibilities.

I am getting an outdoor sink from bunnings that I will be able to use in there as well so I don't have to keep lugging the water around all the time.

Then you could do 3 cabinets wide :D
