Hey everyone :budgiedance:

I have recently been thinking of upgrading Sherbets cage size, l think she would love it.

I have a picture here of one l would like to get:

One like this, thats on a rolling-table. I will be going some markets tomorrow and having a look.

Just wondering how much $$ it would approximately cost? (Australian) Thanks everyone :(

Hi, the size of the cage is nice, but be careful with the bar spacing - this one looks like it's for bigger parrots, so budgie could escape through the bars or hurt himself (his head could get caught in the space). The spacing for budgie shouldn't be bigger then 13 milimeters. I don't know about the price in Australia, try to look on ebay, maybe you find some good prices :budgiedance:

I found some cages, I'm not sure how big is the cage you liked, but this one looks nice and big as well and the bar spacing is 1/2" (13mm), so it's okay for budgie :(

Cage

I just realized the link I posted is USA not Australian, but I can't find similar one on an Australian websides

Hi Missy,

Zebra is correct, the bar spacing on the cage you posted is too big for budgies. Have a look around on the internet and ebay. Cages like the one that zebra posted are available and are brilliant. Quite a few of the members here have that or a similar cage.

my little conure can squeeze his fat little head through the bars of his cage, a budgie definatly will too. the design is also a little more parrot preffered.

This is one i have been looking at for my guys and might suit sherbet a bit better... if you want BIG

I dont know any australian websites that would have it.

Thanks everyone :P

Sorry, l meant to also add that l know the spacing is far too large :D I just didn't know how to explain how big it was with the trolley thing with wheels on it... l wasn't sure if you'd know what l'd mean!!

Just wondering, am l able to take the cage off the tray? Only because it would make moving it indoors much easier.

Thanks everyone for your links and pictures :)

Missy I wouldn't get that cage at all personally because the space barring or have you find the same cage with smaller spaces? I don't know if that one comes apart, I know the one I have does which is the one that Zebra posted. The cage part does come off the stand. I believe you can get that in AU you have to look on e-bay or a dealer by you. Those cages are extremely popular and you can fit 4 budgies in there with no problems no more then six. Merlin is in his cage all on his own :).

Friends of mine have that exact cage for their tiel, but the bar spacing is perfect for budgies or tiels. :) It was around $300AU and that was massively reduced. For a good, solid, powder coated cage you are likely to have to pay a lot, but they are good quality and will probably outlive the birds you put in them. :)

I took into account everyone's advice (thank you all so much :D) and l bought a wonderful cage:

The bars are nice and close together, its nice and tall and theres plenty of room for her :) Its her little penthouse :)

It cost me $105 in total, for the cage and the table. The cage also came with 4 feeding bowls, 3 dowel perches and a swing.

She's loving it to bits :(Laughing out loud):

very nice...cage one thing though and I know I don't want to be a downer but that cage looks more tall then wide and wide is so very important for budgies since they fly back and forth more then up and down. BUT it is great for a couple budgies and she looks great in there :).

I agree with Elly, it's nice but not wide enough to fly. But I guess if your budgie gets lots of flying out in your room then it's okay

Unfortunately I have to agree. It needed to be wider rather than taller so the budgie could fly across the cage from perch to perch. Does your budgie get out of cage time ?

I think the cage is great for a single bird.

  • 2 weeks later...

Not to be rude, but l did post up a picture of a cage with very similar dimensions, and the only thing that people said was the bar spacing was too wide, which l already knew.

So l went out and l found this cage, which was a bargain and very similar dimensions with the one in the above picture, so l bought it.

I was so excited l took a photo as soon as l got it all set up with Sherbet in it and people are saying its not good enough?

I had good morals, l wanted to get her a bigger cage, l could have left her in the cage she was in (half the size) but l thought of her and l thought she would love the extra room.

She flies in the cage, not well, but to get exercise she holds onto the perches and flaps her wings and she enjoys it.

Thats all l wanted to say, none of you commented on the size of the cage, only the bar spacing.

Its not a bad cage, even obne half that size is good for one or two budgie, she just now has extra height to have extra places to put toys, yay. The doors are a great size an the black colour is good as it makes it easier to see her.

You should get some gum branches and stuff in there for her, she'd like that.
