Jim loves the stuff, he goes mad when i give him a leaf to chew on and clears the lot.

How much is too much though?

If you're talking about iceberg lettuce, I wouldn't feed it at all but I'm sure you can get away with tiny pieces here and there. If you're talking about dark green leafy romaine or something similar, give him as much as he wants. :D Might as well let him rip into something that is healthy rather than something that is basically another form of water (iceberg lettuce).

I've been told not to feed budgies lettuce because it gives them the 'runs'. I've also been told that chocolate and avocado is poison to them.

Ice burg is full of water and will make the poop's runny which is why you shouldn't give them a lot of that (if any at all) But the other 'fancy' types of lettuce is fine.

I feed my girl Bok Choy and English Spinach. I also go walking every morning the park and collect a couple of strands of grass seed for her. She loves it. Goes mad over it.

I'd go for spinach too. If he finds it a bit hard to bit into, often 3-4min in the microwave does the trick. Although watch out for the hot spots in the stem. Make sure it's cool down :hap:

Chocolate and avocado are poisonous to parrots. So is raw onion. Feeding lettuce won't give a bird the 'runs', it just increases the output of urine since lettuce is mostly water. The formed part of the stool should still look normal. If you want to offer your bird lettuce, go ahead. Mine absolutely love red-leaf lettuce.
