How many of you do? I am usually for it, but since i have cats i have found that they have a better chance of living if they can fly on the off chance the cat gets ahold of the bird i've never had a problem with taming an unclipped bird it doesn't make them a better pet. Do you guys clip or unclip? :D

I don't clip, but then again I have never been successful in taming a budgie.

I wouldn't clip my budgies but I do understand the reasoning why others do it. Should your cats be out when your birds are anyway, or are you thinking of accidental meetings ?

I keep my birds clipped. My budgie has an obsession with the oven.

I only keep 1 of my budgies clipped because she comes with me to events and such out in public for a bird scantuary and i dont want her to fly away on me, Birdie who goes with her doesnt need clipping he cant fly, the others are left fully flighted at home

But if youre having troubbles taming you can try trimming just a few primarys and see how that goes if not maybe it just wasnt ment to be.

Personally, ive NEVER had a problem with my cat and birds but then again it also depends on the cat

Sorry if you have had to explain this before, but why can't Birdie fly??

I agree with wing clipping, I am planning on getting Bobby's wings clipped, as he is always flying around the kitchen and falling behind the fridge, climbing over the stove and is hard to put away at night time, so I will try it for a one time experiment to see if it alters his behaviour at all...

Bad wing, weve had it looked at, agreed with the vet that it was fine aslong as its not hurting him or if ut doesnt bother him at all, hes never been much of a flyer since we got him

I don't really mind either way about wing clipping. I clip once for taming and then let the flights grow back. ;)

There is a yes and a no answer to this and always will be. I guess it all depends on the situation and environment the birds are in and whats best for their safety.

no i'm refering to accident meetings shoot i take all birdies to a closed door bedroom to let them out

My belief is, if you have cats, or dogs even, don't clip your birds. They will at least have a chance to get away from a large animal if they can fly

I don't clip my budgies, generally, even for taming now. I think it is so much more rewarding when your budgie flies to you because it wants to be with you. I do however have a clipped budgie, whom I clipped, because he was quite cocky and not responding to training. Although now I wish I hadn't as I really want him to beable to fly. He is a good flier and is flying around with only 3 flight feathers, but he can only glide sort of. Two of my budgies can fly, one is clipped and the other just can't fly, don't know why? can glide, but not fly and she has full feathers too.

Both of mine came clipped. Pretty is flighted now and because of his behavior issues of being flighty I was thinking of clipping but decided against per eterri's advice and have a different plan of getting him to calm down once Merlin is introduced. Merlin is clipped to I will let him grow out also.

I believe each bird as an individual and when they are purchased it depends how tame they already are. Yes I would clip if I felt I needed to do it for taming purposes but only once.

I have 3 cats and they are never aloud out with the birds when Pretty is in flight I know for a fact Mollii no matter how high Pretty flys would have a good chance of swapping him with her high jumps.

So cats if you have cats birds are not safe clipped or unclipped when they are out of the cage with the cats.
