Over the last few weeks i have been pondering gettting a playmate for casper... it is still just a thought, and i haven't gone "window shopping" yet, but if i do decide to find a friend for him, would it be best to get another boy, or a girl? Would two males get a bit testy and blokey and end up not geting along? or would casper get a bit hormonal and never resign himself to being "just friends" with a female friend? I don't have an aviary or breeding boxes etc, so they would just be pets/companions. Casper is in a fairly large 2-3 bird cage byhimself at the moment so there would be plenty of space, but i just want to make sure i make the right decisions! Any suggestions?

 

Here's a picture of Casper's cage... not the best shot, but shoes how much space he's got. Its fairly wide, with enough space for him to have to flap to get from perch to perch, and high enough that theres enough room for perches and platforms at different levels (in case one needs it own space!!)

A lot of my male budgies "socialise" with other males in the general aviary population. They all gather and have "man sessions". It's nice to see. The only time anyone gets testy is when they both fancy the same girl in breeding season. On the whole two boys can be the best of mates. I would get another boy.

I love what you have done to his cage. My personal opinion, I would go with boy then you don't have to worry about accident egg laying hens or being egg bound for any reason. That is why I got Pretty a boy "friend" :budgiedance:.

I'd get a male. The males in my aviary get along like a house on fire! Only time is again breeding season when they get a bit narky but other than that they seem to enjoy each others company just fine....they even line up to nap next to each other

Yes I've always kept two males together and they always got on so well, kissing and bobbing their heads with each other. Of course there will always be a boss, but my budgies always got on well and the two males I have now get on well too. Just ask Bea she has two males together at the moment.

I have two males together and they are so close they are always kissing and feeding each other it is just so lovely to see they are inseperable.

i would get another male my first budgie had a male mate and they got on so well until his mate got out the cage and he hasnt been that happy since. but in your case get a nother male i dont thing they are vioious as the females

I am planning on getting another boy as well, for all the same reasons as above!
