Its A Sign!

A while back, i had seen someones budgie, sunny boy i think it was, almost all yellow with tiny tiny bit of green, so he wasnt a lutino. i was in love! i had his picture as my desk top and everything! (Laughing out loud)! I told Bink if i found him a friend, girl or boy that looked like that i would get him, as a joke.. sort of.

anyways,

i went to petsmart, where i got Binks, to get my leopard geckos food and ran right to the budgie cages first. My mom was like, "What are we doing over here? were here for leo food!" i was in aw, there he was, IDENTICAL to sunny boy! gorgous fellow! stunning color! i was at the store eairlyer that week to get food, but they were all out. 3 or so days later, (today) they just got a new shipment of everything. they had a few of the budgies that were there when i got Binks, and the new ones added. My mom gave in, and said i could get him if i was sure i wanted him, because "it was a sign" strangly enough, i had sorted through the budgie pictures and found the cute pics of sunny, and showed my mom, and told her and Binks again, i was getting him a friend that looked like that. The new birds, and the last batch of birds, binks included are all from the same breeder who is up in north florida or georiga, cant remember.. but they bring new birds to all petsmarts along the way every few months. they only got in around 6 new birds. so since the birds are just put into the same cage, come from the same place, is quarenteen really necesary? I havent even had binks all that long.. some of his old friends are still back there.

a few questions.. i really love my little boy, hes very personable around everyone in the family. he loves to sing, and dance and act silly in his cage, and in my room. (we have a little dog, so i pick up his whole cage everyday, and bring him to my room, where we hang out, and he gets to do as he pleases on his gym, and hold him ect.) his wings were clipped, and are starting to grow back so soon enough he will be able to fly around my room, which is a big room, so he'll have plenty of flying space. he will let me hold him, and kiss his beautiful tummy, scrach his cheeks on occasion, but is more content to be on his gym. which im fine with, i know i will never have him be like Bea's budgie, since im sure he was never socilized as a little baby.. this is getting long! the question was, since binks is a boy, he loves to be loud, which everyone loves, do boys compete with singing? so would is be really loud?

for you mult budgie owners.. what are the signs they will not ever get along, and should be separated? how is the noise level, going from one to two?

I wanted a two budgie house hold, i planed for two, but at the time i was looking for budgies, i wanted to have a go at taming the first (and i have, sort of) and there was only one bird i really liked, Binks.

some things i noticed about this bird, his, and all the others nails were a little long, but they just need a tiny trim. his tail was longer that the others, but the others tails wernt in as good on condition, one had a most tail fethers plucked. Binks tail is a little dishuvled too, he hasnt moulted yet, and other young budgies, guess its to be expected..

does he sound like an adult, or sub adult bird? are the nails a bad sign, or do they just need a trim from time to time? I dont plan on shoving two birds together, but the new bird would be in my room, and Binks is brought in me room for 'out time' since they are from same place, same breeder, its okay to be in the same area, right?

Sorry this is so long!

I'm not really sure about a few things. Have you gotten the new budgie yet? and how long have you had Binks? Don't give up hope that your bird will never be as tame as Bea's Blinkie. I've had a couple birds very tame that weren't handled as babies. It gets tougher to have that sort of one on one relationship with a bird when you add another bird to the mix.

I think that even though you would be getting the bird from the same store quarantine would be necessary. It gives you some time to observe the new bird for possible health issues and helps you to interact with the new bird. It would be a good idea to tame him/her before introducing Binks.

Budgies can be pretty loud. Probably not loud enough to make the neighbors complain.. but loud enough that watching TV can be difficult at times. Well..mine are in the living room. I have 2 males and a female. They have been making alot of noise recently.

Of course I haven't seen the bird.. or its tail or nails so I could only tell you that if it doesn't "look right" or healthy to you don't get it.

If there was one in there that looked like it has some kind of problem such as the one missing its tail feathers. I personally wouldn't take the chance and buy any bird that was exposed to it.

i know i will never have him be like Bea's budgie, since im sure he was never socilized as a little baby

It sounds like your budgie is just as tame as Blinkie. Budgies aren't cuddly birds, they enjoy hanging out with people and sometimes hanging out ON people but they aren't going to snuggle with you. (Well, some babies will but MOST adults won't).

I completely agree with this. Especially since the birds you described sound a bit rough and they are now at a store rather than at the breeder's. Pet stores have more than just budgies and those birds probably don't come from the same person who breeds and sells the budgies. Diseases can be passed from one bird species to another within the store.

I would worry about the tails and nails. It's not uncommon to see pet store budgies missing tailfeathers but you said that one was even missing all of them? That is worrying. Overgrown nails can be a sign of illness as well.

No, i do not have the bird. i wanted to think it over first. yes, Binks is a good boy most of the time. i used to lock the dog in another room, and get binks out, and walk him to my room ot his gym, but since he can fly a little, he would some times spook, and one time went behind the TV, and spooks occasionally in my room if im holding him, but when i go to pick him up, when my finger gets close to him, he comes twards it, and steps up volentarilly. so your right, he is a fairly tame bird. I do understand they are not cuddilly birds, and often question why im so crazy about him! just kidding..

eterri, if i remember correctly, it was on your site that i read about young budgies some times pulling out tail fethers. all these birds are, for the most part young. most still have the head 'shell markings'. some of the birds tail feathers are not missing, but the very end is a little fuzzed up and messy on a feather or two, same as when i got Binks. i accreted it to just be from panicing, as the poor little guys and girls do when a stupid employe trys to catch the bird with bare hands, while being scared they will "bite the *** out of them" as they were with getting Binks out for me.. but each and every bird looked healthy, i didnt mean to sound like all birds feathers were messed up. there was one missing a few tail fethers, not all, and two or three with tails frayed, i guess you could put it, at the very end. the one i had my eye on was in perfict condition.

I am a frequent lurker of petsmart, im usually there every other week at least getting leo food, since crickets die so quickly i only get enough for a few feedings. I pass it on my way to work anyways. they havent got any new birds, besides the budgies. they keep a very low number of birds. two types of finches, two love birds, 5-6 cockateals in a massive parrot cage, and one empty cage as of now. I know, scary i know all this. Ill try to remember to bring a pair of baby toe nail clippers, and my digital camera and swing my after work tomorrow and get a picture of him, and the other birds.

After work, my parents suprised me by picking me up, and taking me to the pet store, my dad didnt want me to get another bird.. so they all told me i could, if i wanted to. I did of course! hes home, and not scared or freaked out like Binks was. hes chirped a little, hearing Binks's chirps and yells makes him more at ease im sure. i took some pictures, but im so tired, and smell like fish, cage cleaner, and baby formula for working with the animals at work.. yuck, anyways, ill get the pictures up later i hope.

also! on further inspection, and after my dad pointed it out, the ones with missing feathers are moulting! i can see some pin feathers coming in on there heads and chests on some. still deciding on a name... i love wierd names, and usually end up with normal names, with a meaning (Binks, a cat from a movie) or strange ones, like the dog, her name is Genny, but i call her meral, or ickatha..(Laughing out loud).. I was thinking of schwin, an old brand of bicycles my dad had as a kid.. my brother wants to name him jinxs.. my mom wants to name him Sunny, or mr peepers (the monkey man from mad tv)

EDIT

im not so tired now, heres one good picture i took. dont want to bug him to much right now.

I KNEW you were going to get the bird (despite what anyone had to say).. I could have placed money on it. Well, he definately is very pretty. Good luck with him. You should name him Saffron, he's so yellow. Be strict about quarantine. I don't think I've seen a picture of Binks so if you post one of him, I'd love to see it.

I KNEW you were going to get the bird

im very very happy with him, he seems very tame, already! he hasnt paniced, or started breathin heavy or any thing a normal new bird does. he flew out of his cage, and onto the floor. when i went to pick him up, he flew, more like levatated once or twice then landed on my hand. we've been hanging out in my room on and off and he love to be anywear, cage, his stand, or walking around on the floor exploring. he can hear binks, and the two have been calling to eachother. poor binks seems desperate to find his friend..

the birds WERNT in bad condition, i should have taken the pictures so you could see what im talking about. his nails wernt over grown, just could use a trim. other people with healthy birds occasionally need a nail trim. since his tail is so long im thinking he is an adult.

one question about color.. his eyes are compleatly black, his cere is all pink, and im positive hes a boy. he is almost completley yellow, one tiny bit of light green on his chest, and a spot of green on his rump between his wings. under his tail he does have a black sploch or two. what color is he?

By The Way- i took the pictures down, i just realized they were to big, i think. how do i know if they are the right size or not?

I resize my pictures offline with editing software.. but I think that there is an option to do so on Photobucket.

Here I'll link them for you.

I think he's a double factor dominant pied.. as the markings are too sparce for a recessive.. but I'm not totaly sure.

Hi Bria,

I can't wait to see Sunny Boy's twin!! The way you describe him it sounds like he looks quite similar to Sunny Boy. Have you named him yet?? Topaz might be a good name (like the yellow birthstone for November). OooooH I can't wait to see some pictures.

thank you HurdyBirdy!

here they are, again.

(wait, still trying to resize, thought i had it)

EDIT (again)

i still cant figgure out how to resize it.. and i know its the rules to do so.. but the links should work. heres a link to Binks

OMG how sweet!! Congrats on your new addition.

ahhhh so cute!

Awww, how sweet

Thank you! im absoloutley smitten with this little bird! I settled on the name, Bailey. Bailey Binks & Biddle, after the jewler.. (Laughing out loud). my mom thinks we need to get a biddle, and the name sounds like a green budgie! Im more than happy with my two boys. Bailey is a very bold bird! hes not scared of me in the least. he thinks im crazy, with my annoying human gibber gabber.. step up.. pah! he'd rather fly out, and land on me! hes cathing on very very quickly tho! he takes treats from my hand, something Binks has never done, Bink always acts scared of a peice of milit that hasnt been declared edible after a day or so in the cage. Bailey is louder than Binks, tone wise, his yack is diffrent, and more excited. hes to adorable, he flaps his wings while yacking! Binks is still my baby.. and i've been pampering him even more, i dont want him to feel left out after his new bird friend moves in. what took me 1-2 weeks of work with bink, (which was a hugley fast tame time! i think.) took me two days! I guess i've been just lucky, with birds that arnt freaked around people. I personally, feel that if the bird is handling taming, start as eairly as possable. first day i got him, i picked him up and held her a few times. I think it showed him, yes, I will be picking you up, and I wont hurt or kill you, and see? you can go back to your cage and everythings fine. Bink has never bitten me, lets me kiss his sweet little chest, and comes when called! (sort of) if hes on the ground, i say, "come Bink, come!" he toddles over in his cute little run and when he gets close, i say, "up, step up" and he does!

Bailey seems to be in exelent health, what should I be looking for in the next 25days? with quarenteen, i have to handel both birds, is a hand wash enough? both birds sit on my shirt and shoulder.

Oh they sound just adorable. Your looking for any signs of illness - sitting puffed up, listless, unusual poops. You'll know if you see it!

Im sure I will, just making sure. Bailey has been flying around his cage, hoping around, singing! Its strange, both boys will only sing more than a few notes at a time when they see me come home. When I walk in, Binks is in the living room, and I always say, "BINK!" or "Hi Bink!" and when hes out he'll sing with me on occasion, I draw out pretty bird (Preeeettyyyy Bbiirrrddd) My dad swears he herd Bink talk the other day! Bink said "pretty bird bink" really fast, inbetween birdy gabber. i've yet to hear it yet tho. :ausb:

My budgie is called Saffron and she is THE Saffron, this place ain't big enough for two of em. She will happily tell you that her self :budgiedance: :(Laughing out loud):

How are they doing Bria?

They are doing wonderfully! Bailey is SO loud, that at night both boys are brought in my room. I love to hear there noise! the family is not as impressed with it as I am  Bink was becoming very depresed, hearing his future friend, and not being able to be with him. So they are together now. the meeting went great. just the other day, they refused to be separated so even the first day together slept in the same cage. they want to be out together, on my finger side by side, they are doing so great! Binks perked right up! the second i let them close to one another, Binks jumped up next to bailey, and they started preening. poor little Binks was so deprived! its been two weeks, so i dont feel that badly about breaking quarenteen.. I have seen no signs of sickness, I think they will be fine. they are in love i tell you! constantly feeding eachother, and contact calling when they get separated! Bailey has brought out the best in Binks. Binks would never come out of the cage and really enjoy it, he was always a little nervous, and never took treats ect.. Bailey flys around the room, and likes to explore, and Binks simply must follow him every where he goes! they are adorable! I've been INSANLEY busy, sorry I didnt come on sooner!
