Posted December 4, 200519 yr Blinkie gets usually at least 2 hours, sometimes more and occasionally less. I always feel bad when i see him in his cage and was just wondering how much time everyone thinks is reasonable.
December 4, 200519 yr I've put more than an hour, but it's really hard to answer. I have kids, so I don't like to let the birds out when the kids might open a door, so, if the kids are at school, the cage is open for a few hours, but on weekends it is only for an hour or so after the kids are in bed.
December 4, 200519 yr I open the cage up every day after the cats are locked up, it is between the cats and the bird. So we have to make sure we wrangle down 3 cats. If I get them up in my bedroom locked up he can be out for 3-4 hours, but he doesn't fly that much yet. He loves to sit on the top of his cage and observe. I have to say Lin, he is out when the kids are out and they are very good with the doors. So I am lucky They are 5 and 7, it also helps that it is freezing cold and the only way out of our house they are allowed is through the laundry room door and then out in the garage. But the laundry door has to be closed because that is where the dogs are and they would love a taste of him too. Edited December 4, 200519 yr by lovey
December 4, 200519 yr I open Cheeky's cage first thing in the morning then put him to bed when we all go. Makes a terrible mess though! Edited December 4, 200519 yr by Cheeky
December 4, 200519 yr usaully about in hour to two but it verys couse i let them out 15mins in the morning@(before school)about half in hour when i come home and in the night untill they go back in....on the weekends more often i have a bit more time but i have to share it with lilly my pony!
December 4, 200519 yr i put about an hour. because i work long hours and its dark when i get home and they dont like coming out in the dark. so admittedly they dont get as much time flying as i would like them to. i do leave the door open when i get home but they rarely come out when its dark. my nan has them out for an hour in the afternoon when she can. and whenever i get a day off they get a little longer - nearer 2 hours. they get longer in the summer because it doesnt get dark till really late so they have lots of time to come out after i get homefrom work.
December 5, 200519 yr My answer is almost the same as Pixies, I work long hours but mine do still come out even though its dark from about 6 until 8pm them bed for 8.45pm!
December 5, 200519 yr Author I'll have to have a talk to Blinkie about these pathetic looks he gives me when he's in his cage then, seems he gets a perfectly good amount of flying time! *runs off to have a long talk to Blinkie*
December 5, 200519 yr Star's door is open most of the time, only gets shut if both of us are out which isn't that often.
December 5, 200519 yr My answer is almost the same as Pixies, I work long hours but mine do still come out even though its dark from about 6 until 8pm them bed for 8.45pm! its weird booms. i even have an avian lamp which has some of the qualities of natural sunlight on but they still get their cosy slippers on and stay in. they seem to know that its dark outside. budgies ay, never simple.
December 9, 200519 yr I let mine out when I come in at around 6pm then they have the choice to fly till I go to bed 10-11pm. However, I really struggle getting them in their cage sometimes... millet sometimes works... but I've not yet found a sure, stress-free method for all of us.
