Le Grass Cafe

Right my grass is ready, just a quick question, there are a lot of the seeds lying about too, what would happen if any of the bird ate a seed - would it be poisonous to them. It doesnt state anything on the box about consuming the seeds.

Anyone know or had a bird eat a seed?

Should be fine, there just seeds they can eat anyway.

Great no need to pick them all out then. I hope it goes down better than last time.

i mist spray mine and then lay it on its side on top of the cage. casper adores it. :(

the exposed seeds are fine (the birds probably wont touch the seeds, the grass is way tastier) but as the grass gets a few days old check the top of the soil and the exposed seeds for mould. it somtimes goes a bit greeny/white and if it does i throw mine out and grow a new batch. it usually lasts me a good few days before it gets completely munched up though. have fun! :D

nah i think it is better to use the whole lot at once. otherwise you will get mould.

I've got some small white plastic pots that can be used for small amounts, this then saves on wastage unless you have lots of birds to eat all the grass which grows in the tub.

good idea, i think some people use ice cube trays to freeze daily portions of cooked foods or beak appetite, so you just take out one cube and defrost it everyday. it will last longer than a week that way which is how long it will last if you leave it in the fridge. :(

Well it went down well but not straight from the pot it scared them, so I cut some off and put it in their bath bowl with some water in and they adored it!

That's great! Maybe Julie would have more luck with doing it that way?

Just tried it after reading this-ooooh much too scary still!

Have you tried putting it inside their cage for a while? I did that with mine, left for a few hours, came back and they all had green beaks!

Maybe put it in for a few hours every day until they touch it. That way they have no choice but to be at least a little close to it and see it won't eat them.

Yes I left it in overnight and they were all huddled away from it! I've just clipped some off and pinned it to the side of the cage and Sherbet and Birdy have come over to have a nibble at it but not Budgy2 of course who is the one who really needs it right now!
