Posted October 13, 200519 yr hi all, i decided i would give harrisons another go with casper. the first try since his friend peanut died. well i managed to find a little mirror that attatches to the cage bars and it has a little perch and a treat dish in front of it. day one of the pellets (yesterday) i started by putting the pellets into the little mirror dish and leaving him some spinach and some seeds as usual. i returned home from work to find the little mirror dish completely empty so i thought he had thrown the pellets out of the dish. well today i filled the little mirror dish in the morning and watched him ll morning to see if he was going to it. he had eaten about half of the pellets in the dish by lunchtime. i checked the evidence and sure enough there were crumbs and little green bits on the miror where he had been feeding the mirror too. so i took the mirrored dish out to see if he would eat it from his normal seed pot instead and although i never saw him eat any from there - there are lots of crumbs in the dish, so i know he has had some. im still giving him his seeds back and he has fresh food available 24/7 so he has had the choice. i am so pleased. i expected it was going to be a losing battle again (some of you may know i have tried about 3 times before). lets just hope he continues to eat more and more of the pellets nothing else i have tried has worked in the past. and until now i have never found a mirrored treat dish for sale. for anyone wanting to convert to pellets i would highly recommend this little tool. it has certainly helped me tremendously. i usually say that mirrors are very bad in the cage but with pellet conversion it really has worked. once casper is eating the food from his regular seed dishes i will not use the mirrored one anymore. October 14, 200519 yr Good stuff!! Blinkie has a little mirror treat dish, does yours have little beads across it? I find it, aswell as his bobble head birdie treat dish very handy getting him to try new things (like egg). :fear
October 14, 200519 yr I am sooooo jealous. Well done Pix! I may just give it one more go trying your idea.
October 14, 200519 yr yes bea thats the one i have i think it is made by 'premium pet toys' or something. i got it from an independant pet shop - ive never seen one at pets at home. i gave him his seeds back overnight last night so he could have some for breakfast when he woke up and then i swaped it and put pellets in his normal dish all day today, without the mirrored treat dish and i have again returned home to find LOTS of crumbs in his dish! it is only day 3 of the conversion! October 16, 200519 yr thank you! i am a bit concerned that he isnt eating as much as he should be though - maybe its because there are so many crumbs ground up in the dish. it just seems like not very much compared with a seed diet.
