November 4, 200519 yr I heard on the news that it would disrupt 40% of the workforce in Massachusetts... if and when it reaches us. My brother thinks they are just trying to make us scared and look like the government is actually doing something good. And I have to say I agree.
November 4, 200519 yr False alarm bloke how got off plane tested negative http://www.guardian.co.uk/birdflu/story/0,...1634639,00.html It's very hard for the virus to mutate, if it does it will be Asia, then with today's mobile society it could cause problems everywhere.
November 5, 200519 yr Is it scheduled? They don't know exactly when, and if, its going to go anywhere. It could make it next week, or it could come in 2010. They don't have much of an idea
November 6, 200519 yr Is it scheduled? They don't know exactly when, and if, its going to go anywhere. It could make it next week, or it could come in 2010. They don't have much of an idea hehe It's in the news here on Iceland that the birdflu is commin to Iceland with the "migratory birds" and they come in april and may. But of course we hope that it's not comming but it's better be safe than sorry
November 6, 200519 yr I've 'read' this morning that no migrating bird has yet been found to have it so far. (In the U.K.)
November 6, 200519 yr Author so far not in the uk but they are going to cull some swans and other migratory birds to take samples
November 12, 200519 yr Author this was printed in the budgerigar this month Protect your birds from the risk of avian (bird) flu If you keep birds, simple biosecurity measures can help to protect them, for example: ? Feed and water your birds indoors. ? Keep your birds away from wild birds as much as possible. ? Keep everything clean - spilled feed, litter and standing water attract wild birds and vermin. ? Make sure your clothes, footwear and hands are clean before and after contact with your birds. Visitors should do the same. Be vigilant! If your birds are sick, contact your vet immediately. Signs to look out for include: ? breathing problems; ? loss of weight; and ? falling egg production. Good biosecurity makes sense at all times. January 8, 200619 yr More details on latest storyhttp://www.guardian.co.uk/birdflu/story/0,...1681097,00.html "Doctors said the Kocyigit children had almost certainly contracted bird flu after playing with the heads of dead chickens at their parents' rural poultry farm." How disgusting is that..
January 9, 200619 yr just exactly how do you play with a dead chook's head? Lin, do ya' really want to know?????
February 22, 200619 yr no update on this ? i thought i saw something new on the news in the uk this week about dead swans and the virus being in Europe nearer than it was . Has anyone done anything to protect there outdoor birds ? or do people feel that the risk is too low ?
February 22, 200619 yr hmm it died down but ive found that bird flue seems back in action so we al;l have to watch carfully!on our birds and the birds aroungd us
February 22, 200619 yr Author its confirmed in france and some swans not 25 miles away from me have been tested for it but they must be clear as i havnt heard anymore
February 25, 200619 yr the thing that i heard about that i was digusted about was that the amount of dumped pet birds! i wish people would educate themselves before commiting to such a foolish act. the only way that a pet bird could possibly get bird flu is if a human got in contact with the virus first and then passed it on to their pet! i have noticed that people seem to be avoiding the urban pigeons more lately though. in britain i think we could cope with an outbreak. (provided the government organises things quicky) we have had all sorts in the past - more recently foot and mouth though, and we got rid of that.
February 25, 200619 yr Author un fortuatly i think it will be a big cull as in foot and mouth i watched a tv show the other day where they were at a free range farm and they had been told that if it comes into their region all there birds will have to be kept indoors but the sleeping quarters wernt designed for that so they would end up having to either kill or keep their birds in disgusting conditions
February 25, 200619 yr it will be a big cull. (the neccessary evil) especially since the government isnt keen on vaccinations. i suppose culling has been effective before and this time with humans at risk too, it is the best way...
February 26, 200619 yr Author comfirmed in the france in a farm th efirst confirmed case in a farming situation in europe interesting to see the french president saying it is still okay to eat poultry when they banned beef ect from this country after the bsc scare
