October 24, 200519 yr Oh I hope it's wild birds only. Breeders in Belgium are far superiour to ours and will cost me a packet to have shipped over here (2 men and a van with frequent water stops etc)
October 24, 200519 yr We should know within the next few days. Todays story http://www.guardian.co.uk/birdflu/story/0,...1599635,00.html
October 24, 200519 yr Author i hope the ban covers wild and captive bred birds this is the only way that we will know that it will be 100% sure there are to many shady people out there
October 25, 200519 yr Some information for the Australian Point of view - Different Link Edited October 26, 200519 yr by daz
October 25, 200519 yr A ban on wild bird imports, it appears only temporary but at least it's a start. The UK government needs to be removed as they objected to this ban last March, if you are in the UK and can vote and want an end to this trade then vote for a party that will stop this trade. I'm disgusted at our government. http://www.guardian.co.uk/birdflu/story/0,...1600296,00.html
October 25, 200519 yr Daz, Your link isn't working. Can you check it? I'm following all this very closely, as I'm sure we all are, and especially appreciate the links to the news articles. Thanks to everyone.
October 26, 200519 yr I cant that link either, Daz. I heard at least one imported bird in quarantine was found to have the bird flu in Queensland, but they were not sure of the strain Cindy
October 26, 200519 yr I personally arent worried about myself catching it, its the elderly, the ill and children who are at risk same as normal flu. But my birdies are my life and it scares me to know there is even a slightest chance this thing could wipe them all out!
October 26, 200519 yr I'm worried sick for my hubby as his immune system is medically supressed-therefore he doesn't have one. Even a sore throuat can be fatal for him.
October 26, 200519 yr Like I said on another forum Psitticosis is more of a risk than bird flu and that is easy to get from birds etc and has always been here and always will be. My vaccintaed puppy has more chance of getting Parvo then we do of bird flu. I'm sure it's all a big hype to cover something even bigger up.
October 27, 200519 yr Author I'm sure it's all a big hype to cover something even bigger up. it must be one *** of a subject to kill millions of birds to cover it up it looks like all bird shows and sales are going to be banned unless you can get an expert to say they are safe (who this expert will be i dont know) a big farmers show up here has banned poultry and pigeons also all live bird imports are to be banned as well
October 27, 200519 yr Oh Jules you need to lock him away in a cupboard until its all over. Did I hear right another 2 parrot here have the virus?
October 27, 200519 yr Oh Jules you need to lock him away in a cupboard until its all over. ...Who Hath? Seriously...I hope guys are going to be okay.
October 27, 200519 yr Author Did I hear right another 2 parrot here have the virus? i think it was the initial parrot plus another in the same quarantine place
October 27, 200519 yr http://www.guardian.co.uk/birdflu/story/0,...1601301,00.html Tourists got it in Thailand at a bird park
October 27, 200519 yr Awful, isn't it?! From how I understood things, at the moment, it isn't a huge human health risk, as it can only be transmitted from bird-to-human. What the health authorities are worried about is if the virus mutates and can be transmitted from human-to-human. Then we are in trouble. If this has been said already, I'm sorry. I have read the whole thread, but I can't remember what exactly's been said.
October 29, 200519 yr Author heard on the radio this morning two more people have died a 14 year old girl and a 20 odd year old in vietnam
October 30, 200519 yr They may have found a way to produce a vacine for humans, using animals again. http://observer.guardian.co.uk/internation...1604601,00.html
November 4, 200519 yr just heard on the radio in melbourne there is a suspected case in a male who came back from china and he is having respiratory problems
November 4, 200519 yr It's here already? That didn't take long did it? I hope that poor bloke hasn't got it, I bet he's so scared
November 4, 200519 yr i couldn't believe it either when i heard it i wonder how easy it is to pass it on to other people and if it is that easy and he does have it has he infected anybody else? it's really scary
November 4, 200519 yr It's scary how fast it can mutate, I'm worried enough about my birds, but if I have to start worrying about my elderly father, or my kids, it's just too much to think about
