I'm going to be a first time budgie owner soon! I already have a cage, and now all I need is a bird. Trouble is, I can't find any good places to buy them. I looked around at some petshops near me, but they both had their problems-one had far too many birds in a small cage, the other one had birds that were obiously ill. I tried Googling bird breeders, but I couldn't find any in Sydney that had handreared pet (a lot were selling showbirds, which I don't want) birds for sale. Does anyone know some good breeder sites? Or does anyone here have birds for sale in Sydney, or know of some?

There are some good breeders you can get a bird from.

 

If you want to get a pet size bird, Ace Colony Aviaries on the Great Western Highway at Wentworthville has some good pet types that are healthy. Wide range to choose from. I know when I needed pet types for someone, I went there.

 

What is your cage like? Dimensions? Do you have any pics of your cage set up?

I live in the Eastern Suburbs, so Wentworthville is a bit far . Does anyone know where I can get a list of all registered breeders? Any help is much appreciated.

If you're after registered breeders, try the Budgerigar Society of NSW website: http://www.budgerigar.com.au/ They have links to local clubs who you can contact to see if anyone has any birds available. I did this a few months ago but had no luck.

 

If you're interested in a pet shop, I happened to find one in Ramsgate called Living Jungle where I got my latest 4 babies. They seem to specialise in birds and I was impressed by their setup, it was clean and the birds looked healthy.

The average breeder doesnt register anywhere as there are no licenses needed to breed. Budgerigar clubs have breeders of course but 99.9% would be breeding show budgies.

We have a list of members who breed in our for sale or wanted to buy section on here.

Emailed a breeder to see if she has birds for sale, as well as a local avain vet who might know some breeders in the area...Hope something turns up!

Cheers mate...... we bought the birds from Kellyville Pets.....seemed like a good place EXCEPT the girl there assured me buying 2 baby budgies at same time wouldnt be hard to train at the same time so im a bit jaded about their "advice" plus i saw a small dog being slapped around out the front in the parking lot which was disgusting but i dont think it was a staff member but rather a local bogan who doesnt deserve a pet

in your experience with baby budgies (not exactly sure how old mine are) how long until it is okay to enter the cage (my hand) to see if they are less frightened????
