Posted April 17, 200916 yr Hi, I don't know how many of you will know what a Kauri tree is... but I thought I'd just try asking. The Kauri is a native New Zealand plant and I haven't been able to find anything about it being toxic to budgies as I don't think it's very well known. Would anyone please be able to tell me if you know if it's toxics to budgies? Thank you....
April 17, 200916 yr Do you mean the Kauri Pine? We do have it here up in the rainforest in queensland(if it's the same one). I think it's okay but not positive
April 17, 200916 yr Author I just googled "kauri pine" and they look the same.... although there was something else called black kauri pine that looked different. I didn't know that there are different names for Kauri. Thank you for that. I think that Kauri pine (or Agathis australis) is the one that I'm trying to find out about.
April 17, 200916 yr That is the species we have in the daintree I have a feeling that some of our cockatoos feed on the cones, maybe do a google for cockatoo and kauri pine and see if you can find something. If cockatoos eat it I can't imagine it being bad for budgies
April 19, 200916 yr Personally I wouldn't try it. Kauri trees do secrete some toxins into the ground to prevent other plants growing around them too. Just Wiki'ed it. Here's the link: Kauri trees Edited April 19, 200916 yr by Sailorwolf
