Posted December 30, 200816 yr Hi everyone! I've finally joined! (was waiting on a new email address) My first budgie was Meeple - she was bought on the 18th of January, 2008. Within a month she was completely tame and willing to sit on your finger and nibble you, preen your eyebrows and bite your ears...or play with toys! We decided to buy her a friend because she got lonely when we weren't around... The second budgie was named Tikal. On asking the owner of the bird shop we bought her from whether we should quarantine her, he gave us the answer "you don't need to quarantine, we never do". Unfortunately after a few days she started to show signs of a Trichomoniasis infection (canker). We took her to the Glenside Veterinary Clinic in Adelaide, and one of the vets told us what she was suffering from (we didn't know until that point). The poor budgie had to stay for a week! Luckily she was getting better over a few days. Trichomoniasis is a contagious disease so of course Meeple had to go to the vet as well, but she seemed to be healthy... At the end of it we came home with two healthy budgies and an expensive vet bill  Meeple is no longer tame but the good thing is they are happy... Edited December 30, 200816 yr by Budgiesaurus
December 30, 200816 yr Pet shop advice. As useful as chewing gum to solve a problem - unless of course your problem is the need to chew some gum Welcome to the forum by the way. Edited December 30, 200816 yr by Dave_McMinn
December 30, 200816 yr Welcome to our forum  Glad to have you aboard. Also appreciate your telling of the NO NEED TO QUARANTINE STORY as this will serve as a lesson to those who think there is no need for quarantine
December 30, 200816 yr Such a shame that you even had the sense to think to ask about quarantine, but the "expert" advice you received was so wrong. I'm glad the budgies are healthy now. I'm confused by your photos.... the first picture of Meeple looks like a pale grey bird, but then when you showed photos of two birds, you have a green one and a blue one? Do you have three, or did Meeple's colour not show up right in the first one?

I guess she was just really pale still as a young baby.
January 1, 200916 yr Sorry i missed your intro until now. Hello and welcome!! I am an Adelaide girl too
January 3, 200916 yr I agree with krosp, she looks quite different in the second picture. Her cere is a lot darker and her feathers are fuller. How long in between the photos? The fact that she isn't tame any more makes me think, that maybe (very unlikely) it isn't the same bird. Just speculating.
