Posted August 14, 200816 yr Hey all I got my travel case / cage today and well it looks plain and boring - I want to add a little NEATNESS to it .. The inside base is wood / timber and not sealed or treated with anything - Which means that any poo or etc will mark and stain it ... So i was wondering can i use contact for the bottom so that any messes can be easily cleaned???
August 14, 200816 yr Author okay so i am going with yes then???? Edited August 15, 200816 yr by maesie spelling
August 14, 200816 yr I would think it would be okay Neat as long as you watch that it doesn’t come up around the edges & a bird gets stuck to it, but by that time I guess it would have lost most of it’s stickiness.
August 14, 200816 yr I had a hunt around and could not fine anything that says no to this idea. In fact I really like the idea and was trying to work out how I can do it with mine! I did find a few sites that said that contact was bad if they eat it but if you keep an eye on it they should be fine.
August 14, 200816 yr Sounds like a clever idea - my only concern is the adhesive used :rip: Make sure there are no fumes - i always remember contact being stinky as a kid
August 14, 200816 yr I always just put paper in the bottom of my travel box when I use it, then throw away the paper when finished.
August 15, 200816 yr you'd have to make sure the budgies don't go to town nibbling on any edges etc which might lift up.
August 15, 200816 yr Make sure there are no fumes - i always remember contact being stinky as a kid That's what I was thinking Liv - it's still stinky when I use it on the kids school books and it would be in a confined space in a travel cage?
August 15, 200816 yr Author Thanks Kaz - Newspaper, Now you tell me Soooo, I pulled apart MY NEW travel cage to remove the base so that there wouldn't be any parts that would unpeel and stick up AND .... It was bloody paper not contact, after all the pulling apart and soo excited of painting and etc So I have used Kids glue to glue the paper down, and tomorrow i will go and buy clear contact to cover that the paper ... Then i will have to put the thing back together and find a new frame as i broke that The things I do when i have an idea GRRRRRR So once all is done i will post a picture, can't do it now cause it's all in bits Edited August 15, 200816 yr by Neat

August 15, 200816 yr Thanks Kaz - Newspaper, Now you tell me I use white paper WHY ?? Because if its a new bird travelling home with you, you get to see what kind of droppings to guage its health and stress levels.
August 15, 200816 yr Author That is why i want contact on the base so if there are any nasties i can clean it better. and it isn't soaked in to the wood... as Wile E. Coyote says back to the drawing board
August 15, 200816 yr If you were going to the trouble of pulling it apart to seal the edges into the wood join I would use thin lino instead of contact, tougher, less fumes and won't get holes or tear easily.
August 16, 200816 yr What on earth is contact? Adhesive plastic...like you cover schoolbooks with and shelves in cupboards.
August 16, 200816 yr Ooooh Like duraseal??? :budgiedance: Different countries and their different product names. Edited August 16, 200816 yr by Sailorwolf
