April 25, 200817 yr Author oh my gosh Kaz that 2nd one is excellent on the pin feathers lol...inspite of looking like a punk rocker he is still talking to himself, his toys and to my thumb of course Liv you are so RIGHT they are adorable.
April 25, 200817 yr Thats what I don't get with show breeding... pin cushion heads are cute shouldn't show budgies be cute too... that said, what causes the pin cushion effect? Edited April 25, 200817 yr by JimmyBanks
April 25, 200817 yr LOL, Kaz ... that second picture is a riot. I love em when they are all spikey'd. Too cute !
April 25, 200817 yr Author Thats what I don't get with show breeding... pin cushion heads are cute shouldn't show budgies be cute too... that said, what causes the pin cushion effect? it is when they are molting new feathers, the new feather is grown in but the shealth (protective covering) has not yet come off yet, that is why they are itchier and rub their heads on the cage bars and preen each other more if they have a friend to get it off. All budgies get this show and pet types
April 25, 200817 yr Violet going through her first moult, she had a little pin cushion but she had a fluff ball look all other. She was not very cute looking when she was moulting.
April 26, 200817 yr I love the look too - Milly and Squee never get them. Milly is so obsessed with keeping her head pretty, she basically demands that I pick at the sheathes until they open up - and if I don't she'll rub her head on her favourite toy until it's all gone. (There's a strangely satisfying feeling at opening those things, too  ) Squee hasn't had a lot of moults yet, and when she does it's gradual so I never see her get spikey head. Great pics. I can't tell you the urge I have to pick at those feathers! Nng!
April 26, 200817 yr Author FGM I agree he is so handsome, I love that pose. I wish Merlin would let me rub them off I would enjoy it too .
