Posted April 18, 200817 yr As some know we tragically lost an aviary full of birds during the windstorms, the biggest loss of all for us was our tame galah Felix. Sadly he has not returned to us as yet. A person who heard of our loss contacted me today to offer me the gift of a tame galah. He sits on your shoulder and snuggles and they want to find him a great home. So our new boy will be arriving tomorrow and the first thing he will get is a ring on his leg with my phone number on it. We are so grateful for this wonderful gift, I was nearly in tears on the phone. He doesn't have a name yet, any ideas?
April 18, 200817 yr I dont have any ideas for a name but that sure was a lovely gesture to offer you another tame galah!! Just goes to show there are still some kind generous caring people in the world!! I look forward to reading your updates and would love some photos of him as well!!
April 18, 200817 yr Author I will see if he is up to photos when he comes tomorrow. They obviously care very much where he goes, they wanted to bring him to us so they could see that he was going to a good home. He has been on his own at their house for over a month now so he should be able to meet my birds straight away which is nice, one less bird to try and have in quarantine (have a heap of budgies in quarantine at the moment).
April 18, 200817 yr What a wonderful surprise for you How come he hasnt a name already from his previous home ?
April 18, 200817 yr Author He was a well meant gift, but they can't keep him so they decided not to give him a name so that his forever owners could name him. Apparently he already says Hello!
April 18, 200817 yr it's glad to see there's some kind people out there sorry for the loss of felix, but congrats on your new bird
April 18, 200817 yr Author We are still putting posters up about Felix regularly, you never know when he may appear. If he comes home to us we will ust have two boys to love
April 18, 200817 yr What a wonderful kind gesture , keep checking with bird resccues or wildlife centers for Felix that is where he would probably show up if someone captured him or wanted to keep him and then decided against it.
April 18, 200817 yr Author Unfortunately we don't really have central bird rescue or wildlife resue here but I have let the wildlife hotlines know and all of the local pet shops and bird suppliers as well as vets and then signs and letterbox drops everywhere. So there aren't really any other options...
April 18, 200817 yr im sorry to hear about your losses I hope Felix returns to you. About the name maybe because Felix the Cat you could have....Garfeild I don't know haha good luck with Felix and naming your new darling ♥Indz

April 18, 200817 yr Author Just bycoincidence I had a lecture today on 'The forefathers of modern conservation' One of them was a bloke by the name of Gifford! I kinda like it Giffy the galah, what do you think
April 18, 200817 yr lol, i sign from god, i like it are tame galahs hard to come by? cause if you got on the wrong side of a galah wouldn't it take your finger off?
April 18, 200817 yr Author Not really hard to come by. Giffy will be our 4th Galah (one died of old age, Felix and we currently have another one, Chucky, but he is an aviary bird), they are prone to tempers if you don't treat them right(and some are just prone to tempers anyway ), but if you care for them well they will reward you with so much love in return.
April 18, 200817 yr So sorry for your loss,it must have been heartbreaking! What a lovely surprise. Can not wait to see photos of him.I love how galahs look so soft and cuddly.
April 18, 200817 yr That is such a wonderful thing for the person to do for you. It sounds like Giffy is a very lucky fid to be joining your flock. I was thinking, if you lost a galah wouldn't it be quite tricky to find again with all the wild galahs we have in Australia? Unless a galah specifically flew to me or didn't move away from me i would assume it was a wild one.
April 18, 200817 yr Author Yes it can be hard, and we have lots of galahs around here. Felix had a problem foot that makes him easy to identify if someone does find him but it's a long shot. Many years ago I had a metal leg ring engraved with my phone number for one of my birds. I had a few rings engraved last week and by coincidence they are too big for the birds I intended them for. Giffy will get one put on when he arrives tomorrow so that if ever he does go missing he will have my phone number on his ankle.
