Posted April 9, 200817 yr Sherbet has before had a little kick on her head, it was bleeding, but it cleared up fairly well. Fizzy helped out by cleaning the feathers. I woke up this morning to change their water etc and Sherbet has another cut on her head, on the opposite side, above her eye (about half a cm). Is there anything l can do? Why is this happening?
April 9, 200817 yr can you post a picture? Check everything in your cage that your bird rubs his head on for anything sharp even perches. Also is he going through a molt? Maybe when he is rubbing his head he is breaking some feathers up there.
April 9, 200817 yr Author She rubs her head a lot on this cactus branch which is a hard branch, she does that a little bit so maybe? Heres some pictures - sorry about the quality, tried to get her to sit still but its hard! The cut is above her left eye http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y256/mist...xx/Image003.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y256/mist...xx/Image004.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y256/mist...xx/Image005.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y256/mist...xx/Image006.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y256/mist...xx/Image007.jpg I have looked at the cage, felt around the toys and nothing seems to be sharp thats poking out? P.s. l have to go to work now and l won't be home for another 9 hours or so, so l'll have to come home and read the responses then. Edited April 9, 200817 yr by Missy
April 9, 200817 yr As you say it’s hard to tell from your pictures, as they are unclear. Like Elly has said maybe she has just ruptured a blood quill, as it’s emerging as she moults, I have noticed lots of people stress out with this on this forum. It’s a pretty common occurrence, especially with birds with lots of directional feathering [show types] on their heads. It looks bad, but I never do anything about it & in a day or so all trace has gone. If she is rubbing on a Cactus as you say, I think it would be best to remove this possibility in case she is actually injuring herself.
April 9, 200817 yr As Norm said remove the cactus and I really can't tell from your pictures but see if that is the issue those are pretty prickly especially if she is rubbing on it.
April 10, 200817 yr :ygbudgie: Everything okay?, perhaps the cactus was the culprit. Edited April 10, 200817 yr by Phoebe
April 10, 200817 yr Author I got home this afternoon and it has clotted - so its now crusty. Its healing and doesn't look as bad. I would take the perch away but she loves that perch to bits, its THE perch in the cage if you know what l mean! The best perch! But if it is causing her harm l will remove it. Thank you everyone for replying. Also sorry about the quality, l just grabbed my phone and hurriedly put them online, l only had about 5-10mins otherwise l'd be late for work.
