Hey every one .... on my venture out i went into a pet shop at Liverpool and of course the first thing a budgie owner does is checks out the birds .... I was blown over by the prices they charge $55 for babies and $40 for Adult ..... They were in good if not great condition and even had fruit & greens in there ...

I asked them where do they get their birds from and they told me from breeders... My ears pricked up as they would ... I adv them that I was ... THEN I GOT THE 20 QUESTIONS

Are they cage or avairy how are they feed blah blah blah the thing that got me was ..... wait for it ...

THE OWNER LIKE TO VIST ANY BREEDERS TO SEE THERI SET UPS AND VIEW ALL BIRDS INCLUDING THE PARENTS OF THE BABIES .... I was gob smacked A PET SHOP THAT CARED !!!!! ....

what are the odds

If the breeder is lucky.the pet shop is paying about $5 to $10 to buy them off the breeder.

how wonderful, that is why the price of the birds are higher in this store because you are getting quality, health plus...

thanks for sharing.

It is great to hear that there is a least one pet shop that cares about budgies

:) Good to hear, at first I was going to say that they were hand tamed.

:D KNEW there had to be at least ONE!!

YAY

I am sure that if they were hand tamed then they would ask for alot more (Laughing out loud) ...... But it was a shock But a good shock ...

Well done to the shop owner. Not only does he care about the quality of stock he is buying, He obviously is thinking of his customers

And the best thing is that he knew what was male and female .....

I brought my budgie from a pet shop and it cost me $45. its only a baby to..... :D

  • 2 weeks later...

I have had a simular experiance, I once went to pet shop that charged $50 dollars for an untrained budgie and $80 dollars for a almost trained one, and the weird thing was, they didn't look that healthy.

OMG! $80 for a tame budgie? I sell mine that are genuinely tame (handled daily from 2 weeks of age) and at the time of sale sit happily on your shoulder, give kisses, and are almost human for no more than $30!!

It's great this shop cares about the health of the birds it buys etc. I am curious to know though, as macka said though, generally pet shops only pay about $5 for a budgie, do you happen to know how much this shop pays to the breeders for their birds?

A few of the city pet shops sell their birds as hand tamed for $80 when in fact they just have their wings clipped!

Another one near me claims that if you pay them $130 they will hand tame the budgie of your choice. I am so tempted to go in there and say that i want this big old mean green they have had in there for at least the last year and asked for him to be hand tamed without clipping his wings! ;)

Oh I wouldn't pay until it was tamed mate .... LOL

Get the big evil mean giant budgie hen up the back,The one that is part condor, the one who the only possible matching name would be something like Zeus-a or Mrs Serrated Battleaxe, who every time someone catches a glimpse of her eyes they turn to stone instantly, and then see if they can tame her.

That pretty much describes the green one that have at the moment and have had for the past year! She is bigger then any of my guys but she is not really a show type just a BIG bird!

So tempted might go down there this weekend if she is still there I might just see about paying for her and getting her "tamed" and see how many fingers they lose! :budgiedance:

Then she can come and live in my aviary.... hmmm only issue is because of her size it worries me she might beat up the other guys.

She's probably a darling, reallyThen if you do get her, at least she'll be out of the petshop finally poor girl.

I try not to support pet shops when they sell birds if they are not really looking after them or they sell for strangly HIGH prices! But I am very tempted.
