Maybe Saying Good-bye To A Beautiful Boy!

Hi BBC'ers,

I headed out to the aviary this morning as per usual and spied what looked suspiciously like a hen, sitting in the corner, trying hard to look like she wasn't really sitting on an egg, :D

In The Aviary! :parrot:

Where there should NOT be a hen :D

But it wasn't,

it was this guy:

He is a gorgeous Bob Levy bred opaline, and he was sitting on the floor in the sort of position a hen on eggs would sit. So I went in and picked him up and bought him inside to put him in the hospital cage (where the above photo was taken).

Checking him over there was no signs of ill health other than total weakness and the occasional twitch :( Obviously there has been some catastophic occurance sometime in the night, whether that be stroke, heart attack, I have no idea. So, at this stage, unless he shows signs of wanting to fight back I am just going to supply him with the basics, a heat source, and a dignified death - if that how he wants it to go.

I'll just keep an eye on him during the day. I would really just like to cuddle him, but I can't keep him as warm as the hospital cage, so I'm putting his needs above what I need, for now...

Feathers.

:D BIggest hugs Buddy. I know how upset these things make you :angel1: He is a very beautiful bird.

I lost a very special guy yesterday too...He had feather cysts appeared on his head but that was secondary symptoms...it was discovered he had a tumour and he died not long after the discovery.

I know how you feel......BIGGEST HUGS :D

:ygbudgie: Hope your guy makes out okay Feathers!

Sorry to hear your sad news Aly, I’m afraid when they go to ground like that it’s not a good sign, I find not many recover from that state, best of luck for him all the same. Sadly we have to get used to some losses & often it’s birds we have high hopes for.

Sorry about your 'find'. I hope he makes it through or goes quickly with little pain and discomfort. (((((hugs))))) to you.

(and Kaz, sorry for your loss also xxx) :angel1: Maesie xoxo

(((Hugs))) :D

I don't know what else to say....

thinking of you and (((BIG HUGS)))

:angel1:

I'm sorry Aly, but you are taking care of him and hopefully he will rebound. Thinking of you both.

Thanks all,

It looks like he is appreciating the warmth and he has eaten some millet in the hospital cage.

He has had a cuddle...

It seems likely that he is suffering from a brain injury, whether that be a knock on the head, a stroke or a tumour, I couldn't say, obviously. He seems to have right side weakness.

I will keep an eye on him as I don't want him to be suffering. If it looks like he is going to have a low quality of life I would rather have him put down than allow him to suffer.

I think he might be a fighter because he has just completely surprised me. I turned around while typing this to have a look at him and he is eating a normal seed mix, rather than the millet now.

[shakes head] Just goes to show, you never can tell with these little guys. Maybe the 15 minutes he spent down the front of my top helped! :glare:

This morning I gave him a very slim chance of surviving.. maybe he is going to prove me wrong, wouldn't that be good...

What a beautiful boy, I do pray he will be okay but if he is not he will be flying free with the angels

Well hopefully he'll be okay... I'm sure if he does decide its time that he'll go out like a king. you take great care of all your animals its sad to see you lose one... but hears hoping that this was just a scare..

Gee's Feathers, ... so sorry to hear this guys sick. I hate to think how worried & sad you are too. It's so hard to care & love these amazing little birds that can't tell us WHATS WRONG. Lot's of kisses & cuddles are definately in order.

This is mandatory ! So smooch & whisper your love to him. It will help you a little & make him know how much you love him.

Good luck & I hope he comes around. You never know !

NickNack <----- sad wussy for sick babies. Anyones sick babies.

I'm sorry to hear that

How old was he, if l may ask?

 sorry to hear of your baby!! lets hope he pulls through!!

come on boy FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE!!

I'm sorry to hear your boy is not well. Good luck and I hope everything works out.

How is he today?

He is certainly a fighter. He has a bit of a perch every now and then, with most of his weight supported by his left foot, but the right foot is obviously not limp as it looked like it was clasped around the perch as it should. I took a couple of photos, but not wanting to use the flash and too lazy to get out the tripod, they weren't too good. Maybe a photo tomorrow.

He is spending most of the time sleeping on the bottom of the hospital cage, he is eating and drinking normally and poops are normal. I checked his crop before he settled in for the night yesterday and earlier this evening and that was fine, not full as a 'goog', but not empty either.

As he has obviously decided this isn't the end of the line I did give him a crop dose of poly-aid plus and I will start doing him some egg food form tomorrow too.

Holding him, he has more energy than he did yesterday, so we will just wait and see...

Feathers.

thank you for the update, fingers crossed, we can only hope as you are giving him the best care Aly hugs.

Good luck Feathers ... you seem to be helping him along greatly. He's quite the fighter.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you !

Best of luck Aly, I hope he makes it...like someone else asked how old is he?

Hi,

Sorry, I forgot Missy asked for his age. He is a gold rung budgie, born in 2006.

He has been eating and pooping as per normal so I was no longer worried that he was about to keel over.

After watching him for the past couple of days I decided to put him back in the aviary today and see how he coped. He flew straight off and had a quarrel with a young budgie over HIS turf on a perch. I sat out there most of the afternoon and he was as happy as larry! Thankfully the right side weakness seems confined to the leg only now and I am hoping given a little more time that will subside.

A VERY good outcome given the condition he was in at the beginning of the week.

Feathers.

I'm glad to hear the good news...let's hope he keeps on keeping good.
