October 19, 200717 yr :ygbudgie: :budgiedance: Very hard to rehome budgies, albeit special needs ones, lovebirds and cockatiels and other species seem to get adopted much faster but still not all that fast. At least these guys chowed down on romaine lettuce today!
October 20, 200717 yr :ygbudgie: I may have to try and squeeze him and his buddie in somehow forever as it would be a shame to separate them. It may be too early to say and the quarantine room they are in has bad lighting and is squished but after 4 days, it looks like the beak is growing. Hope my eyes are just tired as it's Friday night here.
October 20, 200717 yr Did the vet trim the whole thing down? Did it bleed? It looked like it was very long in the picture, but the more I looked at it, it looked really skinny. Not the normal width of the beak. I guess it was probably the angle of the picture. Anyway, special needs budgies are so precious. It wouldn't be SO bad if he made his forever home with you, would it?
October 20, 200717 yr Vet clipped it regarding length and angled it at the sides, again, I hope I am imagining things regarding the regrowth, another couple of days will tell the truth. In any event, something will be worked out for Sky. No bleeding at all so obviously not very vascular. Man those two love to sing, they are noisier than my own 4 budgies even though they are behind a closed door!
October 20, 200717 yr Did the vet suspect some disease or just abnormal growth? Sorry to hear it’s growing already.
October 21, 200717 yr :ygbudgie: No, just the sequelae of trauma, scaly mites or congenital deformity. My retired budgie breeder thinks it's just a case of neglect and not using the beak on wood or cuttlebone, will put another cuttlebone in the cage and take him back to the vet in a couple of weeks. Very distressing to say the least.
October 21, 200717 yr I'm sorry to hear that the beak is growing again, hope you are able to find a good home for him
October 21, 200717 yr Yes, I feel so sorry for Sky but he is one happy budgie along with his male buddy Pickle, they sing their little hearts out! He will be taken care of one way or another and live happily ever after. Thank goodness he is not a biter so I can clip his beak. :yellowhead:
October 30, 200717 yr  Beak still growing, no interest in the two cuttle bones, retired budgie breeder told me to replace ALL perches with natural ones (I know the safe kinds) especially with nobs so will give that a try. :budgiedance:
October 30, 200717 yr Can you get a hold of a small rock of limestone to put in his cage to chew on. Its a natural calcium and grit source and may help with the beak. Edited October 30, 200717 yr by KAZ spelling
October 30, 200717 yr :budgiedance: Thanks Kaz, will try that as well, they are going back into the other bedroom with the other fosters tomorrow as there is no demonstrable illness and that will allow me to give them more time and them more companionship.
December 4, 200717 yr :ygbudgie: Sky and Pickle will be staying, have learned how to clip Sky's beak. The vet is concerned that he might have liver or other health issues, he does have a couple of small lipomas and it would not be fair to adopt them out. Also suspect that he is older than we might think. Pickle is slowly starting to come out of their cage and have had a little luck with pressing my finger to his chest with a little half step up and he doesn't bite hard at all, so will continue trying to tame them. Will get them into a better cage soon and out of the living room as soon as my guest budgies go home when their owner returns from out of country. Here's a picture of them and Sky assisting me with kitchen cleanup, he will ride around a bit but prefers to return to his buddy. :budgiedance: And, with great annoyance, cannot post my other pictures, they show as 320 x 240 on Photobucket but seem to blow up here, ?anyone?
December 4, 200717 yr That's cool you can keep them, they are lucky budgies It happens to me too with the photos being too large here, but showing the right size in photobucket. I always try it more times (delete it and insert again) and normally it works . Don't know why it does it :glare:
December 5, 200717 yr Thanks Zebra, thought I was losing my mind as I was down to no other options than avitar and thumbnail, will try again! And Sky and Pickle are doing well and very happy, I call them my "choir boys in the bedroom". :(Laughing out loud): :) Edited December 5, 200717 yr by Phoebe
January 17, 200817 yr :ygbudgie: Beak clipping went okay despite my trembling hands, Sky is such a GOOD boy and they now have a new cage which they are enjoying!!! Will add some more toys/perches later.

January 26, 200817 yr I think it is time for another beak trim but will hold on a few more days, it's obscene, it grows so fast!!!
January 26, 200817 yr I think it is time for another beak trim but will hold on a few more days, it's obscene, it grows so fast!!! Poor you... You need one of those electric pencil sharpeners, where you push the pencil it and it sharpens it itself... I could just see Sky playing and eating, and then flying up to the shapener for a quick trim He'll just need something else to do his 'hair' and his nails and he'll be done :(Laughing out loud): ...Every one will start bringing there birds to you for a beak and nail trim. You'll have to start charging. When you say fast, what are you talking??? Edited January 26, 200817 yr by maesie
January 26, 200817 yr EVERY 3 weeks or less!!! That's super fast!!! Poor little bugger. Wish my nails and hair grew that quickly :budgiedance:
