September 21, 200717 yr There is no real pink budgies. We have had budgies who looked pink due to being on a product in the base of their cage that made them take up the colour and some got to be pink by their calcium blocks or cement perches that were coloured. But there is NO genetic pink budgie

September 21, 200717 yr It sounds like you have a bourke... they come in a good amount of mutations, these are my rosa bourkes. They are great birds! If you got lucky and got a male, you will hear him sing in the early am, and after the sun goes down. They are very enjoyable birds. :budgiedance:
March 12, 201015 yr Wonder what happened to the pink budgie You know how these things are KAZ...."it all comes out in the wash"
March 12, 201015 yr Wonder what happened to the pink budgie You know how these things are KAZ...."it all comes out in the wash"  Yeah... maybe a stray red calcium perch was washed in with the albino budgies...
March 16, 201015 yr wow that is a pretty budgie! wow that is a pretty budgie! Its not a budgie. Oh sorry. *no offence that just cracked me up when i read it.*
March 21, 201015 yr Question? what happens if you cross breed a rosy bourke with a budgie? would you get a pink budgie?? or is it impossible to cross breed these birds? if so how come you can cross bree dogs and.... cross breed lions and tigers? - and donkeys and horse and zebras? just wondering.
March 21, 201015 yr They all have a similar genetic make up. There is a lot of difference with a budgie and a bourke. It is impossible for them to breed as I understand. With cross bred dogs they have all descended from the same creature. See..... even 12 year old kids know stuff. Edited March 21, 201015 yr by Ratzy
March 21, 201015 yr Hybrid bird species do exist. I've heard of a budgie and red rump rearing a youngster but this is heresay. I have no proof of this statement. It happens all the time. Members of the Cockatoo family freely interbreed. It is well documented that a scarlet chested parrot and princess parrot successfully raised a youngster. See here: http://www.talkingbirds.com.au/scarlet.php. Similarly, a Cockatiel and Galah have raised a youngster. See here: http://www.talkingbirds.com.au/galatiel.php I see no reason why a bourke and budgie could not breed. Whether they want to is another matter. I think if the pair are put together when they are babies you would have a better chance of it happening. Still a long shot!
March 21, 201015 yr this is a good point. however, can we just not stick to budgies alone? personally it seems quite selfish or cruel to breed two different birds just to get 'a pink budgie'. even if it were possible to me it would be a shame that we cant stick with original species. but just my veiw. xx
March 21, 201015 yr I wasn't saying that hybrid birds don't exist. Personally I've seen a few. BUT...... Budgies are single species. As in there are no subspecies I have heard of. With the galah and cockatiel, a cockatiel is just a small species of cockatoo and I fully agree that they can hybridise. The chances of a budgie and a bourke liking each other and being compatible are not big. I have never heard of a budgie hybrid. I agree with LILBABYBUDGIES. If we keep hybridising then the species will become rare. The dingo is an example of this.... too many have hybridised with dogs and so the pure species are rare. Hybidising happens accidently, as with the galah and the cockatiel.
March 21, 201015 yr A lot of the big cats that have been created are test tube cubs too it's one thing for birds in the wild to cross breed, its a whole other story to go around trying to play with genetics and create a mongrel mix... Edited March 21, 201015 yr by KAZ
March 22, 201015 yr back to pink budgies... Click here just to add fuel to the fire... Does NOT pay to pull random pictures off the internet JB as we know that to be a bird of Barrie Shutts and there is a story behind that which is NOT a natural pink budgie. It is a joke Barry was playing on people at the time. I think you know this already ?? So shall we ignore this pink budgie ?????????????????? Edited March 22, 201015 yr by KAZ
March 22, 201015 yr I'm sorry, call me strange, but I don't see the fascination of a pink budgie. It looks way too odd. That one that you put the link to JB - I know it's a joke - but the blue is so dirty, not clean and clear like most sky blues - it looks more like it is meant to be a stuffed toy rather than a beautiful lovely budgie. If there were a real pink budgie somewhere - it would be interesting to see, but I still would never want one. So am I strange? HAhaha maybe that shouldn't be answered
March 23, 201015 yr :hap: No KAZ I had no idea...... Really it was a joke....... :hap: In a word .................. GULLIBLE
