Posted February 1, 200718 yr ...i think Blink has something on his mind today, something that seems to ALWAYS be on his mind, something alot of male budgies have on their minds. Let me just say that he started the morning holding his "Blinkie" bead toy and mating with his rope perch, not to mention he kept chasing Oz around the place because anywhere in the cage was too close to his 'mate'. After chasing elevated to jumping on top of and wrestling on the cage floor i removed the "Blinkie" toy. About 15 mins later i hear Blinkie's over excited flirting sounds which can only mean he's mating with some inanimate object. This time he was holding his ducky toy and mating with the cholla perch. I gave up and just tried to block out the mating sounds and think about poor Ozzie stuck in a cage with Blinkie the 'you-know-what' maniac. I've now had all the birdlets out for three hours. I honestly thought Blinkie was going to 'get it on' with the playstation control. And then just now he was on the playgym getting a bit friendly with a plastic budgie. WILL IT EVER END! Boys, who'd have them! I seriously think i could remove all toys and perches from the cage and he'd just mate with the grate on the bottom of the cage!
February 1, 200718 yr I think your right Bea,funny thing is it doesn't matter what species the male is the story is the same. (Laughing out loud) :hap:
February 1, 200718 yr Author He is STILL at it with the rope perch, i'd take it out but i know he'd got for the cholla, i'd take that out also but i've seen him at it with just a normal branch in there. All hope is lost. This has been going on ALL day!
February 1, 200718 yr One of my 3 month old show budgies was mating with his hooped rope swing in front of Feathers and her daughter Jacquie the other day...repeatedly.
February 1, 200718 yr Abit off topis but: What happened to that old piece of fuzzy rope that was loved by all in your avairy, Karen?
February 1, 200718 yr (Laughing out loud)...I know how you feel Bea. Holly is still humping his jingly ball toy like there's no tomorrow and he also humps his ladder, chats up his cuttlefish and has even tried to hump my hand a few times!!! But what can you do? I couldn't take away his toys...and even if I did I'm sure he'd just find a side of the cage to hump instead. I guess I'm just thankful he's only a little birdie and not a great big Great Dane dog trying to hump everything in sight!
February 1, 200718 yr Boys! That said, my girls hack at everything in sight. I now have to keep Milly's water hopper tied to the cage with elastic from the outside, because she keeps gnawing and tugging at it until it drops onto the floor and spills all the water. Kestral, now I have images of a Great-Dane sized budgie romping around :(Laughing out loud):
February 3, 200718 yr Typical men!!!! I am having the same problem. (sigh) I think Stewie has definately hit adolescence. He has recently started rubbing himself on the side of the cage when he's out. He starts off just flirting with the water container then has some 'fun' with the cage! It's only the cage though, never anything else. I think he must be quite fussy. The thing is I think Bubbles would quite like him to have 'fun' with her as she often makes the 'U' shape after they have been feeding eachother! Maybe Stewie is intimidated by the older woman. Poor neglected females!!!
February 8, 200718 yr Woah! It has been months since i was last here! And it is really funny that one of the first posts i come to is this one, cos Casper has been "acting strangely" the last couple of days. he hasn't been madly humping anything (well, no more than usual - his poor calcium perch! If it were mine i wouldn't want to be sitting on it!) but he has certainly been flirty... and aggressive!!!! He charged at me when he was on top of his cage the other day - went straight for my nose and instead of giving me his normal kisses he took a chunk out of me! He loves the upright pole on his playgym and tried to rip shreds out of my hand when i went to get him on my finger while he was mid-pole dance! I decided to take away his ouside mirror, just to calm him down a bit (he still had his inside one if he wanted it) and just as i went to put it on the table, he flew at me and actually grabbed the chain on the mirror in his claws! He has been flirty to the point of distraction before, but never bitey or aggressive. I think there must be something in the air!
