Posted January 29, 200718 yr so today i opened the nest box to check up on my female and this is what i saw http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e219/oha...udgies/eggs.jpg
January 30, 200718 yr Author this is the parents matin after the third egg was laid http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e219/oha...ies/Picture.jpg and here is the third egg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e219/oha...udgies/eggs.jpg
January 30, 200718 yr I am sorry, but I must say the size of that cage is so very small AND you have nesting box inside it on the floor. Barely room for one budgie but you have two in there and a family of babies possibly coming. You may need to rethink that  Edited January 30, 200718 yr by Bubbles
January 31, 200718 yr We know budgie lover must have another cage somewhere as he has three budgies and only two are present in that cage. What is your other cage like? It is best to add the nest box to the outside of the cage if you can, as it gives the budgies more room.
January 31, 200718 yr Author my other cage is bigger and i was one budgie in that one i was goin to switch cages but i was scared of how the mother would feel plus she has three eggs
January 31, 200718 yr I would say it is fine for now. Give the male some toys to play with. he must be a bit bored.
January 31, 200718 yr Doing well. Congratulations. They will need more room once they fledge. I don't have experience in breeding, but I would leave them be for now too.It will be interesting to see what number they stop at
January 31, 200718 yr Author sailorwolf should i let all the eggs hatch and then give him a toy or now with only three eggs deposited and wont be too busy playin rather then feeding the babies
January 31, 200718 yr No. He will always do his fatherly duties. I have 2 breeding males in seperate cages at the moment, both have toys. One male has two 1 week old chicks. He has 3 toys and he still feeds mama budgie. My other male has successfully reared 3 babies to 7 weeks of age. He has had toys in there since the beginning. Now he is helping to raise a second clutch, with toys and his previous distracting babies in the cage and he is doing superbly. I also let them out to fly as well. The toys give the boys something to do while the female is sitting in the nest. So yeah, I would add one toy to the cage for now. A small one, would be good. January 31, 200718 yr I agree with sailorwolf the male will do his job. Mine has plenty of toys and he never neglects the mother or the babies. But while she is sitting he will be very bored without toys.
January 31, 200718 yr I wouldn't shift them either now that they have started a family. Some of my Dad Budgies like swings in the breeder cages, as they do get bored while they wait. Maybe you could think of a way to extend the cage when the babies start arriving.
January 31, 200718 yr Author for sure i agree with u bubbles i will do that i am really scared of kind of toy to add my male loves mirrors and he takes up all his time playing on it and he likes the rings with bells but mirrors more which should i add????????
January 31, 200718 yr for sure i agree with u bubbles i will do that i am really scared of kind of toy to add my male loves mirrors and he takes up all his time playing on it and he likes the rings with bells but mirrors more which should i add???????? Probably not a mirror toy, but a little swing or a toy with balls and bells on maybe. A toy that swivels around the perch might be good. Something to make him interested in playing. You might be able to make a toy if you havent one available ..something bright and colourful. I have some cheap plastic bangles threaded over the perch that the budgies like to play with. Something you may already have that you can use. Edited January 31, 200718 yr by Bubbles
January 31, 200718 yr I agree. No mirror, you want him loving his mate, not his own reflection. The hangings rings are great, if it is a toy he has previously enjoyed he would love it now also. Â Feathers. Edited January 31, 200718 yr by feathers
January 31, 200718 yr I was wondering about the toys. I have some in for Vester and Jewel but I wondered if I should take them out. Poor Sylvester does look bored when she is on the eggs even with the toys. He can see the birds in the big cage and when they are flying around in there he hangs from the side of the cage as if to say, "I want to play too." Â I've thought about letting him out to fly about but will he go back to the cage with Jewel? Or will he head for the big cage with the others?
January 31, 200718 yr Author honestly Shawna i don't know the answer to your question as i am a first time breeder and so yeah i wont use mirrors and i will post a reply on here from the fourth egg hopefully being deposited tomarrow
January 31, 200718 yr Shawna. My Arkady is just like that. He can't wait to get otu and go to the big cage. I let him out any way. He will fly over there and hang out for a bit, but he will always go back, and if he doesn't, I make him go back with a piece of millet.
February 6, 200718 yr Author so yeah im kinda late on the 4th and 5th egg but here are the pics 4th egg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e219/oha...gies/4thegg.jpg nd the 5th egg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e219/oha...dgies/5tegg.jpg soon im expecting babies so excicted java script:emoticon('', 'smid_15') smilie
February 7, 200718 yr Yay another journal!  I think you should add toys. My breeding pairs also have toys.. LOTS! (Laughing out loud) Heres a picture of the cage, nice, and colourful, with things to keep the male amused   It wont hurt anyone. My male likes the balls, and loops He still feeds mum and babies, and is fine with the toys  I also am worried about the eggs? They seem as if they are moving about, and arent together like they should be? Can you add wood shavings, or get a peice of wood with a concave in it to add to the nest? It will help more than you would imagine! Best of luck! From the mating picture, all seems like the eggs will hatch!  Kirby
February 8, 200718 yr I notice you don't have a concave in your box for the eggs. I hope that they don't get rolled aroun too much by mom. I noticed once one of mine had been knocked out of the concave, but ever since, she is very attent at keeping them there
February 9, 200718 yr Author she had the shavings under her but she took em out and plus when i open the box she gets up but when shes sitting they r all next to each other
February 14, 200718 yr Author egg number one hatched and here is a picture of it http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e219/oha...gies/babie1.jpg
