Featured Replies

Congratulations !!! I'm sure they will be beautiful :hap:

My only one showing budgie Jupiter (in my avatar) lost his ring - nobody knows where, so he's not really showing anymore :P . I think I already bought him without the ring

SAMPSON IS GORGEOUS !!! I would have a girl for him, Giny (she's not showing, but I think she is pretty)

I will try for some photos tomorrow. We have a scorching hot day forecast, so some Mums may be off their nests for awhile. They all have air coolers going in the birdroom to keep them cool. Hopefully we will be okay. I will be drilling air holes in the nest boxes tomorrow too. :grbud:

Im so dying to see them I bet they are just gorgeous :grbud:

My area hit 41 degrees today (105.8 degrees Fahrenheit), :grbud: and tomorrow is supposed to be hotter, so those mummy birdies and babies are going to be needing their cooler.

I've been worrying about the cold here. It has been around -20 celcius

(-4 F) outside and the room I keep my birds in is cool (16 C; 60F).

Shawna same weather here and I keep mine at the same temp and they are okay. It is the drafts and the quick increase up and down temps that are more harmful :D

Everyone seems to be having extreme temps at the moment. It has been 42-46C here for the last week, its a full time job keeping the animals alive! (lost 4 baby ferrets and 1 baby quail) but keeping the sprinkler on the aviaries and cages seems to keep it a little lower-

Good luck with the babies- can't wait til they feather up!! Might have to come say hello next time I'm in Perth!!

:( Oh dear, wish we could ship some cold air over from Canada to you. My temperatures are kept at about 70 F, as my Mother downstairs controls the thermostat and it gets even warmer upstairs with me. Stopped covering the birds at night for the most part except if it is really cold and I throw off my comforter most nights as it just gets too warm for me. But, my Mother is happy, says it is the first time in years she has been warm (as we are sharing the utilitlies), I truly feel for those people that are entering the 40 C range, so sad that you lost some of your pets, pie. :ausb:

I would love to see you if you want to call in and visit :ausb:

I, too, am sorry you have lost some of your babies. I hope mine manage okay.

**************************************************************

Another very, very hot day. The breeding room area was fine as they have 2 water coolers / air conditioners going all day in there. We actually had four new arrivals today, in spite of the heat. Bubblegum is a father again to Angel....their first born today. Also Amara and Clyde had one born today. Another couple of my show birds had babies arive today too. Radar and Swifts babies are fed to bursting point. Looks like the normal in that box MAY be the dark green or olive I hope for, but maybe not :P

Also got some new birds free today when Ken bought some Barraband parrots (aka superb parrots) ......we were given 5 new budgies and 4 tiels and 4 quails :)

How many birds do you guys have in total (not just budgies - everything?) Can't wait to see pics of your show budgie babies growing up. Well any new babies for that matter.

5 Princess parrots.......3 green and 2 blue

5 Barrabands

3 Cuban finches

3 Canaries

2 Zebra finches, one white, one cinnamon

1 Jacarini finch

4 quails

4 tiels

about 270 budgies

and two bullfrogs that live in the avairy as well.

I don't know which is worse, the horrible heat you all are having down under or the awful cold we are having here. Right now it is -3 F actual temperature, the wind chill factor making it -30 F. Conversion temp for you all is -19.5 C actual temp, -34.5 C with the wind chill factored in. I hope all your budgies fare well with the heat, and that you are taking care of yourselves too. Extremes in temperature is hard on everyone, man and beast.

Did you realize there is over a 100 degree difference in our weather? That is hard to imagine!!

We have such diversity around the world represented on our forum in temperatures, seasons and people.

Here is a picture of one of my show hens. She has 4 of her own chicks so far and one adopted........also 4 eggs yet to see

Bad and unclear photo sorry ......no ino in there. The adopted one is a pet type and should be blue series. Show bird parents are grey dad and grey green female so I will be able to pick which the adopted bub is, also know its size and rank in the group. :D

WOW she is going to be a BUSY BUSY mommy :)
