I hope he grows strong and tall A veteran show breeder showed me that to test for the day of ringing a chick...hold its back toe backwards along the leg. If the toe reaches to the leg joint it is ready to ring. I will test to see how old that makes the chick. January 27, 200718 yr A good rule of thumb is between 6 and 10 days. if you can ring at 6 days and the ring stays on ... GREAT. As a rule I count 7 or 8 days. Funny you should say that Shawna...I expected there to be but not when newly hatched. Mind you some of the other show bird eggs are larger and they have yet to hatch.
January 31, 200718 yr i dont think there is at hatching but by 4 to 5 days you can normally tell especially if you have a good un as they have to be rung on the 5 th day instead of day 7 or 8
