Sweet Potatoes

Hi guys,

I know that my birds can eat sweet potatoes but what about the cooked skins? Do I have to get rid of the skins? I know that the most nutritious part of a veggie is usually either the skins or close to the skins so I thought I would ask.

not sure if my budgies would eat them, but my cockatoos get the sweet potatoes skin and all, but He peels them off himself to get to the flash. I think he still gets the occasional skin bits... but it is safe for them.

White potatoes are bad if they are raw. Sweet potatoes I think are okay either way, but I can't imagine eating a raw sweet potato. I'd cook it and peel off the skin. Not sure what a kumara is.... :P

Sweet potatoes are not actually in the same family as the 'normal' potatoes.

I thought kumera was just another type of sweet potatoe. To my knowledge, they are okay, but I think it was any green potatoes of any sort were a problem (and no leafy bits from sprouting potatoes).

Yeah I would say your right turbs. Potatoes are from the deadly nightshade family,if potatoes are green throw them out. Green potatoes can give you bad tummy cramps and the green leafs are deadly, with birds it all would be deadly I imagine. Sweet potatoes not the same as far as I know quite sure they different family.

:D Are kumeras like yams? Like Rainbow, I have never had exposure to them. :D
