Posted June 16, 200619 yr well im new here, but have been looking around for about a week. im from st. louis mo, in the US. i am 25, married with a 7 month old daughter. i just got a budgie yesterday. i have a couple of questions for you. male/female? about how old?
June 16, 200619 yr welcome to the forums , you have a beautiful budgie . l would say that you have a female ' but l'm not 100% sure .
June 16, 200619 yr hiya, i'm not sure either but i would guess female. She looks really young because she still has all her head bars - maybe about 8 weeks but that is just a guess. she is gorgeous!
June 16, 200619 yr Author yeh, i thought she was beautiful also. she is very shy right now. ive got her next to the couch and talk to her constantly. she really doesnt move. she will tilt her head like she is listening every once in a while. i got her from a local aquarium shop. they had about 10 to picture from.
June 17, 200619 yr I would say around 8 weeks old because the cere is very pink, it will turn blue if boy and tan if girl. Are the nasel rings really white or are they more transparent looking?
June 17, 200619 yr then I will go with male because my Pretty has transparent white rings and he is a male, he was confusing in the beginning too. If you check out the pics in my siggy you can see the white nasal rings too. If the rings start to turn bluish over the next couple months then you will know for sure. But that is my guess, also because the rest of the cere is a very smooth and even pink. also for the mutation if you wanted to know he is a Dominant Pied . Edited June 17, 200619 yr by lovey
June 17, 200619 yr Author is that a good mutation, also the cere is more blue than anything. its just my camera isnt that great. i will try to get better pics tonight.
June 17, 200619 yr absolutely I love the pied mutations , Pretty is a recessive pied. I am saying boy then totally if you say bluish.
June 17, 200619 yr Well if it is 8 weeks old and has a blueish cere then it would be a girl. Ceres for boys don't go blue until they are 3 to 7 months old. From the pictures I would say girl, she has a purplish coloured cere, with a bit of browny pink and large white rings.
June 26, 200619 yr Hi there, Your baby is adorable. Everytime I see another little bird, I want that one too. My list is getting extremely long. So sweet looking, like all babies. Hope he/she turns out as sweet as my Oliver was. If so, you will enjoy him so much. Have loads of fun! Edited June 30, 200619 yr by Nerwen
June 26, 200619 yr you have a lovely little baby boy/girl! I love the way baby budgies have such big, dark eyes! They're so cute while their proportions are still a little out (a bit like baby people really, hey?). Petey is very handsome/pretty (choose which one depending on the gender lucky-dip!)!
June 30, 200619 yr Hi welcome to the place, with that last shot you showed he is clearly a boy. I love that little extra blue spot on his left leg If you want ideas on training head over to that area and read read read :(Laughing out loud): Or ask and there will b plenty willing to share.
June 30, 200619 yr I agree, very cute bird! Mine look a lot like yours (first poster asking questions). In the end you will be able to notice if the bird has female or male behaviors to help determine its sex. Though, the birds can fool you even there. With my female, Woodie, her cere was more of a creamy color and then as she got older (not quite a year old yet), it started to turn tannish towards the middle. Cloud on the other hand, definitely has a light blue cere and will gradually turn navy...maybe. We'll see. Very beautiful bird! Some pet stores do take good care of the budgies. My gosh budgies are so very easy to take care of! On top of being such beautiful birds!!! They are so cute they can melt a heart of ice! ROFL Love your picture of the budgie and cat Nerwen! (Laughing out loud)
June 30, 200619 yr Gday and welcome tcr03 What a gorgeous baby you have there. My guess would be a boy and about 8 weeks. Cheers
