and become a responsible budgie owner what is one that you have changed about caring for your budgie (s).

I know for mere there is alot but I will mention one.

How important veggie are in their daily diet.

;) Veggies and i have actually come to appreciate them HEAPS more.. I never use to spoil the ones out in the aviary and im ashamed to admit it but ...I was one of those horrible people that bought bird seed in bulk home brand packets  But now my aviary birds are so much loved and enjoy nothing less than the birds inside do ;)

I owe so much to this site and the fantastic people that make it so great {{{HUGS}}} LUV U GUYS!

Cheers

Una

i care less and less what their colours are called and more about how pretty they are. ive learnt about veggies and fruit ( well that didnt help my budgie ownership as they dont eat it) joining here got me to add to my budgie collection.i dont remember if i had snow and tweety before or after i joined because between them and birdie is where i learned the most. ive just learnt alot here. Except genetics but thats got nothing to do with caring for your budgies. but now if if i could i would be able to breed budgies

I haven't had my budgies for very long but I learned a lot about them before I got them for my birthday. I learned about adding variety to their diets, making sure they have toys, extra vitamin supplements, cuttlebone, etc. Mine are just thriving and I've never been a bird owner before.

I listed in another post the things they love to eat. I would love to have them have a playgym, though Cloud loves to fly and Woodie is taking to flying too. I know of a pet store here in town that sell playgym stuff for them. As I am getting a bigger cage once my brother comes back from AZ, they will have more space to move around and flap their wings. He got them a small cage (don't know dimensions and no good at guessing them) when they were babies.

Now they are molting their baby feathers and growing in their flying feathers--the feathers that reach down to the start of the tailfeather. When playing they are so energetic! It's amazing! They also know when Momma goes to bed. (Laughing out loud) they already know 12am is their bedtime and are sleeping before I even put the blankets on the cage.

I talk to mine a lot and call them "pretty birds", "pretty birdies", "pretty Woodie", "pretty Cloudy", "Mr Cloudy Clouday eeee" and "Woodie-gal"... I'm sure I'll call them more nicknames as time goes by. I always do that to my pets. I hope mine live a long time they are such beautiful, intelligent, companionable birds but they also have their bratty, crabby moments.

I think Woodie is going through a period of sexual maturity for her cere is turning tan towards the middle. What do you guys think? Cloud's cere is also turning gradually from a light blue-green, to what seems to be a purple coming up.

That's all for now! (Laughing out loud)

:) <~~~~ My Cloudie!

How to give them a varied diet and to make things more interesting for them.

heaps of things! food and perches changed for Stitch but also stuff for the future like how to tell a young bird and whether their sick too!

Put it this way, you know when someone comes along and makes you feel ill cause their budgies are in small cages on all seed diets? That used to be me. :)

Kind of how I am with fish ey Bea? :)

First thing I did was decide not to buy a mirror.

I have learnt almost everything from this site. I dont offer millet or seed treats anymore due to how ill and obese it made my birds. They now get 5 different fresh foods offered twice a day homeade soft foods aswell. They get supplements and regular vet checks.

I am now a constant poop inspector and pretty much know if any of my birds are ill which I would have known in the past.

Most of all I learnt having 1 budgie is not enough hehe!

I learnt to give them more outside time, and feed them a better diet. They love apples and dandelion. I have changed their seed to a better brand, with a greater variety of seeds, pellets and fruit chunks, which they kindly throw to the floor. And they now have 3 play gyms!! They didn't used to have any.

Also I have learnt that 2 is not enough. :(Laughing out loud): and that there is always a cage better than the one you have at the moment. I can't upgrade anymore or else their cage will be as big as my room. :(Laughing out loud):
