  1. Alright, well I guess you can guess why I'm here. I'm back in the budgie world and I want to know what my birds are and you lovely people are the ones to help me. Oh, I can make some guesses but I've forgotten most of what I used to know and I'm too lazy to go back and research it from the start so I've come to you guys. Thanks! 1) 2) 3) 4) I'm dreadfully sorry about the horrible pictures.... They will improve I promise!
  2. Hello, I really need helpful hints for planning my next breeding. Although it will be at least a year away before my new 8 week old hen chick will be ready to breed (so a breeder has told me) I want to help bond her to her future mate and keep them together away from the aviary. My first and only breeding between a 3yr old hen and 4yr old cock was successful with 5 healthy beautiful chicks. Now I need advice on colours. I have tried to understand genetic charts of what to expect but it’s so complicated that I am turning to this forum. My question is, (from left) Snow, my new (looks yellow blush on face) pied hen; Casper, my 3 year old blue spangled cock, and Midge, my 2 year old yellow pied cock (centre front) - Which of the two cocks would have the most interesting colour chicks? ‘Thank you for your help it’s much appreciated.
  3. I know that back a few years ago there was a discussion about violets. Things have changed since then. I had posted some time back about breeding. I have a visual violet and I was so excited. He was going to be my foundation Stud. Well he was thinking different. I just was not interested in making babies. NO WAY JOSE! So I had to look at different avenues. So with the new season, I had limited stock. I have 6 couples paired up for the season. Cage 1 is a Violet Cobalt Male Spangle with a sky blue cinnamon. Cage 2 is Violet Sky Blue Violet cobalt Male with with a Dark Green Violet Hen. Cage 3 is Violet Grey Opaline Male with a Lutino Female who carries violet. I got a very nice Violet Mauve Spangle from her. Cage 4 is a Mauve and he is paired with a Violet Cobalt Hen. Cage 5 is an Olive Spangle Male (he was the father of the Violet Mauve Spangle and he is paired with a Violet Cobalt Hen. Last is Cage 6 a Violet Sky Blue Dom Pied with a Sky Blue Recessive Pied. So all of these pairs at least one of the parent has the Violet Gene. I know they didnt want to talk about adding Grey and Green, but I needed the Violet gene. That is my plan and I will be adding images as time goes on. Couple 6 is seriously getting down to business. I am expecting eggs by next week. If you are in the same situation as I am, please feel free to talk about. Lets add pics as they come. Thanks
  4. Hi everyone, haven't been on here for a while but I've returned with some pics of a pet budgie I hope to pair up so that hopefully someone give me some advice on what to pair him with. A while back I posted a topic trying to find out exactly what mutation he was thinking he was a "Lutino Lacewing" (I've learned a bit since then ), but I had a couple of responses suggesting opaline fallow. - http://forums.budgie...1329&hl=joachim In any case, he's turned out to be a very nice looking budgie, all yellow with nice markings on the back and a bright blue-green tail. Anyway, at 1 and a half years old, I'm starting to think about pairing him up with a female and trying to get some babies that will look similar. Some background information: His parents turned out to be a bit of a genetic mess having both lutino and albino offspring as well as normal greens and this guy. His mother was a lacewing and father a "normal green" obviously split to blue, as was mum. There are pics of the parents and the siblings in the link I added above if that's any help. So my question is, what should I pair with this male budgie in order to produce offspring that will be phenotypically similar? I would love to have some more pet budgies that look similar to the guy below. Any advice would be appreciated! Joachim.
