  1. Any thoughts?
  2. Alright, here's another attempt at a picture: :/ The "nibbled feathers are on his back.
  3. Hi hilly, I noticed the "nibbled" look right as he was finishing up a somewhat dramatic molt, and at first thouht it was just where the feathers were still growing in. But the feathers still look that way. :/
  4. Hmmmm. I definitely don't remember seeing any dark specks on his wing feathers (which are white, so I think i'd see them). I also didn't see any specks on the feathers that look nibbled (which ar on his back). Are there any other mites that could make the feathers look nibbled? Another question: are feather mites and feather lice the same thing?
  5. Alright. I caught him a couple more times, but can't find any dark specks. But his feathers look like more of the tip has been nibbled away. So if he does have feather mites how would i treat them? Do I have to sanitize his cage and all toys/perches? Or just put the medicine on my bird (and what medicine/where to get?)? Should I just take him to a vet? Please give me some advice I don't what to do.
  6. Awww he/she's so pretty

I have a wire grille between the cage tray and the rest of the cage. I put sheets of newspaper in the tray, but I don't know if I'd want my bird walking on newspaper because it seems a little slippery. But I really don't know much about cage tray litter.
  8. Hello and welcome I can't wait to see pictures of your beautiful budgies!

Is your vet an avian vet?
  10. Well, in my opinion, if you make sure he gets a drink right before you pack him up, he should be fine (budgies don't actually drink a lot of water). As for food, a millet spray or two in the transport cage should be fine, and it'll help him settle into the car better. Also make sure to cover the cage with a light cloth to block the view of the unfamiliar environment. When I take my budgie on vacation with me I put food and water in his cage as well as a toy or two. But that's when he'll be in the car for several hours, so that's a different story. Good luck
  11. My budgie never bit me when he was really young, but developed a habit of it as he got older. But now I've managed to control his biting. Here's how I did it: I read a lot, but what worked was this: I gave him lots of attention when he wasn't biting me, and stopped talking to him when he did bite me. I also took my hand away when he bit me, and took my hand away if he snapped at it or looked like he was going to bite. That's the important thing: watch her body laungage. Learn what she does right before biting, and move your hand away when she does that behavior. The only problem with this method is that if your budgie is biting it playfully this might not work, because my budgie was doing it to tell me "get away from me", and now he just beak-butts me to tell me that. Ignoring her biting and giving her lots of attention when she's not biting, and giving her lots of snacks and toys to chew on should help. That's just my opinion Good luck.

welcome to BBC Good luck with your breeding
  13. okay so I caught him (which, by the way, is MUCH easier said than done -he's tame, but doesn't like to get touched anywhere other than his head). Anyway, I couldn't see any dark specks, I might try again in a couple weeks. Also, do you have any info on feather mites? I'd like to know a little more about them like how quickly the damage progresses and how the mites spread ? Thanks
  14. Okay, so I know just about nothing about mites and stuff that affect budgies lol, but my little 1 year old budgie has some feathers on his back that look, well, nibbled on. Here's a picture: Its not too good but on his upper back you can see (I hope) that some of his white under fluff (is that the word?) is showing.
  15. Hey BJ thanks. I actually love to know as much I can about bird nutrition

Thanks Stace It is really hard to get pictures of him in flight, especially considering that he just loves to "explore" my camera with his beak, while sitting on it haha.

Yes he's tame, and soo sweet . I got him from Finnie, and he was tame to start with as he was hand-raised.
