Hi!
okay, thanks for the photo, she is a very beautiful budgie, I have never seen a budgie like that where I live. But I guess no one breeds that mutation here. I breed violets but they are full violets, with yellow heads. The father is a Cream-ino, and the mother is a white headed violet. Excellent to hear you aren't colony breeding, I thought you weren't but just to be certain. Yes I have heard about birds needing to have UVB. Mine are out in the garden and get the sun every morning (If they decide to, they can stay in a sheltered area if wanted. so yeah. Looks like you have everything under control. It was very interesting reading about everything too.

Parakeet Is Protected By Law In Australia?
Not unless you are harming them, or keeping them in a inappropriate environment, if this was to happen and the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) found out, well I am sure you could get a warning / fines etc. Um, also I kind of interpreted your question into, is the budgie protected in the wild. If so I am pretty sure they are not endangered, and they flourish through the desert.

Hi!
welcome to the forum, it is a really good place to get info and to learn the dos and don'ts. Very interesting story, and I will make the request of another picture of that violet, it looks to me to be a female, but get some other peoples thoughts as I am not that good at sexing. Just to be clear you aren't colony breeding are you or planning on? as it can cause loss of limbs and death. But sounds like you and your kids are excited about breeding them. I know I was when I started. But hey, how couldn't you be they are so friendly (most of them) and so beautiful. Good luck.

Mid Year Journal Of Mixie And Lady
Yes, well she has kicked them out again. The other eggs seemed to be fertile when I kindled them at 8 days, but yeah. I have a hen that has babies, and two that haven't laid yet and are looking promising but, I doubt they would sit on them. I have put the egg with the female with babies with a hope it will hatch, do you think that that is a bad idea if the eggs of the fosterer have already hatched. They would be about 19 - 14 days old roughly.

Mid Year Journal Of Mixie And Lady
okay, as I mentioned, in a comment on the other topics, my 4th baby chick died, But the other female (Lilly), has started laying a new clutch. she kicked her other eggs out, and I tried incubating them but it was not successful, should I try and let her sit on them again, or do it myself?

Mite & Lice Spray - Breeding Budgies
Hey Mike, personally I think If you spray the parents away in a separate room you will be perfectly safe, but don't let the spray get in the food, and maybe allow the parents to dry off first before putting them back if you are worried, I have used liquid mite on my breeding male and they had babies at that moment of time and they where perfectly fine. However you may want to confirm this with another person on this forum, so just wait until you get another answer from someone else from the forum, as I don't want to say its okay, then it turns out not to be.

Smugglers New Home And Friends.
looks good, the only thing is in time, those pebbles will just be covered in droppings, unless they are washed very well. I personally prefer pavers / concrete, as they wash really easy, don't go for sand at all it is a pain, and it can carry disease, mites etc. better than pavers. Other than that it looks really good. The last thing is that if they do happen to mate and produce offspring it is likely that another bird, could attack those young chicks and parents of. Which could result in loss of limbs or even death. So if you are going to let them breed even once I would be very careful. **KAZ** the Administrator has posted a topic about colony breeding and people always say that they will be fine and a few weeks later they comeback asking why there were dead birds. So just be very cautious on how you approach this. Great work, and really nice size cage, they will be able to spread there wings I think. And welcome to the Forum.
