Help Identifying Color?
I agree with splat on the dilute idea but from the photo it looks like it has clear flights which suggests another variety as well. I am no expert on clearflights etc. Anybody?

This Is The 1St Online Bbc Show For Exhibition Birds
Great idea Julie and thanks to Gina for judging and explaining the selections. I am sorry I missed it but I just haven't had the time to take photos due to a work month from ***. On holidays now woohoo! Would be easier fro the judge if a front and side profile of the whole bird is exhibited. Then the judge can explain the strengths and weaknesses of each exhibit.

The latest offerings are starting to show some directional feather. Two of the birds have a GB parent. Thanks GB! Her birds certainly carry the right sort of feather. a better shot of the grey green cinnamon above

Yeah got my fingers crossed with her Julie, she could be a real cracker. Having a good run at the moment, have a few in the nest feathering up very nicely. Just waiting for something to go terribly wrong......

Fennel
Saw Geoff Tonkin feeding this to his birds and they were devouring it so I thought I would give it a try. There is a lot growing wild at the moment so I picked up some from a paddock and the birds are devouring it now. Oonce they got over the initial shock of the first taste they are now relishing it. Apparently full of antioxidants and other good stuff.

I have a couple of grey greens, I am sure that I have my first sook for the year and I will lose her but the other one is feeding. I will wait a few days and let it grow just a little bit more.

Honestly it's been that long since I have bred one I can't remember. I think it will stay roughly the same. The reason is that it is from a Lut-Alb pairing, so it is split blue. I could breed it to a well coloured lut or split lut or use it to breed albs, all is not lost. It will be a really handy hen.

Any Clues
Have been doing some reading, I am putting my money on the iodine.... How much are you putting in and for how long have you done it? Excessive iodine casues hyperthyroidism which symptoms in people include: Appetite change (decrease or increase) Difficulty sleeping (insomnia) Fatigue Frequent bowel movement—perhaps diarrhea Heart palpitations Heat intolerance Increased sweating Irritability Light menstrual periods—perhaps even missed periods Mental disturbances Muscle weakness Nervousness Problems with fertility Shortness of breath Sudden paralysis Tremor/shakiness Vision changes Weight loss-but perhaps weight gain Dizziness Thinning of hair Itching and hives Possible increase in blood sugar

Any Clues
If it were my birds I would be looking at anything that may be toxic. Maybe something is affecting absorbtion of calcium and other essential stuff causing the birds to slump? I am guessing at an overdosing of something or a poison of some sort, but a guess is all it is.

Hens That Don't Lay
I have had about five hens that just won't lay this season. They are not too old and appeared in great condition, they went through the motions but just would not or could not lay. I have had several of these birds before but not this many in a season. Most of these were untried young hens. I have always got rid of these hens, but I am little bit reluctant to jettison the lot of them as there are some very nice hens amongst them. Has anyone had any success with these types of hens after flying them or treating them for some particular thing? I have never bothered with them. NB The vents of these birds appear normal.

The Last Babies Of 2011 Breeding Season
Great birds again Julie, the violet spangle is a keeper I think . Very deep mask on it. I have some lutes and a grey green to show you but I might wait another week or so till they are perching. A real shame to hear about that hen.

French Moult Question ?
It's a virus. According to most opinions I have read on it, it will be present in most groups of birds. You may have birds who are carriers who are completely healthy and have built up a resistance. It becomes a problem when a bird's immunity is weakened. The more rounds you take from a bird the weaker the chicks will be and the more chance of infection. The virus is also airborne and very little can be done to stop it spreading. You can try with virucidal sprays etc. If you start to get widespread problems all you can do is stop breeding. If you notice those messy feathers again pull them out at the quill and they will often grow back okay. Sometimes they recover, but most proabably don't recover thier feathers. http://www.birdhealth.com.au/bird/budgie/polyomavirus.html

Ring Question
I have just started selling the cock birds too on Gumtree with free delivery to my local area, that way they don't come to my place. Sold one for $40 today which is a lot more than I would get for it after it has eaten 8-12 months worth of seed. If they show a little bit I will keep them and let them moult out, if they are not good enough they go. I always put down pretty birds for feeders and if I don't need them to be feeders I let them raise a round and flog the chicks for seed money.
