Hi Paulie Probably nothing to worry about until you start to breed a few then you may need to examine your pairings and try to figure out if you are pairing related birds with the mob gene. Many breeders go years without breeding any.

I myself am a Christian, but i won't be doing bible study with my birds, taking them to church with them or teaching them hymns. They won't be doing communion, having wedding cermonies or getting baptised. The same way I wouldn't expect Jewish budgies to wear a Yamaka or get circumcised. Ludicrous idea is a ludicrous idea .

Is that serious or extracting the waste water?
  4. I understand why you used the word "gender" instead of "sex" in the title.
  5. I agree with twisted, those birds would not be expensive maybe $20-30 for the grey and a bit more for the Lutino. I also agree with the first part of the first sentence of Finnie's post.
  6. Thanks Kaz, found the last bit on FSC10 very interesting. Have been using it as a disinfecant and found it to be pretty good and cheaper than some of the other virucidal stuff.
  7. I have been using one cock over several hens for years using various methods. I have found that regular mating is the only reliable way to get fertility.

Where in Melb are you mate?
  10. From those photos it definitely isnt feather plucking but may turn out to be a feather issue/disease I reckon.

    Onya James, welcome..
  12. My gut feel is that there would be more evidence of damage if it were the parents. Chewing the ends of the wing tips wouldn't cause bleeding and if they were chewing the quills they would be obviously damaged. Very hard to say what caused it without seeing. It could be that the blood came from somewhere else and leached into the wing. If I found this in my nest I would keep and eye on it but wouldnt be to concerned if the chick looked fit.
  13. Yeah me too! First rounders are goign through thier moult and there are some nnice birds among them, I did better with the second round when some of the blues I gotr fired up. I have to figure out which lines to work with next season. I was going to do my hard cull after 2 seasons and breed 2 lines but I think I might do that this year now. I have pretty much made up my mind on what lines I want to strengthen and then combine.

I have a brother who is looking for someone. He drinks a bit too much and his personal hygiene is pretty poor. He is always scratching his crotch or picking his nose. He is 30 and still lives with mum and dad. If anyone is keen please PM me, there may be a dowry involved. I am sure mum and dad would pay handsomely to anyone to take him off thier hands.

I lost the best hen I have bred today. A combination of things went wrong, the heat being one of them.
  18. They may or may not grow back Ray and the breeder would most likely not have known. It is not something that can be detected easily. Most breeders who breed over a period of time will get it and there is no cure or vaccine.
  19. For UBCs I get $20-40 privately and $10 from the pet shop.
  20. Looks like a nice hen there Twisted.
  21. I know that I have culled a few too early but I have been getting good money on Gumtree for them. I fugure if I can get $30-40 for my pretty coloured cull baby cock birds I may as well sell them now and buy some seed. It would be a bit different if I were a champion breeder and got $50 plus for my culls as young birds. It works for me at the moment. I will only need to keep about 30 cocks as I double team the best ones anyway. I won't sell my baby hens though unless they are obviously no good. Years ago Julie I bought some really good birds at pet shops. I also saved a number of birds from going to the bird dealer earlier this year at an experienced breeders place who was trying to reduce stock quickly. Some of the birds went on to breed me some really nice stuff.
  22. Pretty much all of the above. Picking up good stock to start with and pairing them right will probabaly increase your luck.
  23. Thats exactly how i started my greywing family years ago Splat.
