Wondering About Cage
http://www.cheapaschips.com.au/showproduct.asp?sk=BA049 I'm wondering if this cage is okay. I'm going to try and get it this week, but I want to know it's right before I buy it.

okay, no mirrors. *nods* yeah, i'm looking at Cheap as Chips soon to get him a cage, just need to get there. LOL If we are going for the whole day, I put him on the freezer and he happily chats away to the budiges in our flight aviary and when I get home i get the loudest and happiest squawking and chirping ever. LOL Should I be mixing shell grit in his food to help him digest it?

Wondering About Cage
Yeah, i've finally put my foot down and told my mum and dad that I am getting him a bigger cage and that it's for his enjoyment and just because he's a bird doesn't mean he has to be in a small cage. It was tough! But I think they finally agreed on the grounds of not wanting to be nagged. LOL In the long run I know it is best for Dalek to have more room to move around in. And more room = more toys!

Thank you so much Kaz!!! He's a little bugger to train, and the last thing I want to do is undo all the work, he's only just learning not to land on my head and not to eat my lap top (Hopefully getting the play gym will help with the lap top issue LOL) I'm glad that he is fine on his own, would you suggest mirrors to keep him company while i'm not here? Or is that bad?

Budgie "blankets" And Snugglehuts
I have seen them to and the first thought I had was 'The chickens would love that if it was bigger!" I don't think it would be good for a budige at all! Even though it is sold through the RSPCA doesn't mean that it should be used. They can get lied to just as much as we can. I mean seriously, that's like giving your dog a sleeping bag and zipping it up, it's all kinds of evil to a budgie! I just hope people learn that birds are birds, and they like perches. Even the chickens sleep on their perches instead of nesting boxes. It's just a bird thing.

One Or Two
As everyone knows, I have my little baby boy Dalek (Who is getting a bigger cage and a play gym soon ) and he seems really happy. But lately my friend has been telling me that budgies need to have a friend with them, my dad won't let me have another budgie in the house and if I ask and explain i'm worried that Dalek needs another bird, he'll tell me to put him in the bird aviary again. I'm wondering if Budgies can live by themselves as long as they have plently of human social interaction, which he gets. LOL He thinks he is king of my room and my brothers are constantly cooing and talking to him. She is telling me to put him in the flight aviary for a few hours a day to give him budgie attention and that if I don't he could start trying to kill himself. I'm really worried that he coudl, even though he seems really happy. I'm not sure about putting him back in the flight aviary and then upsetting all the other birds by trying to get him out because he still doesn't fly to me yet, he's only just learnt step up and only does it when he feels like it. Please help!

A Little Concerned With Dalek.
He is going great. Seems much happier, mum is pretty sure he was sneezing and scratching because the dow feathers are coming out, he's leaving little white puff feathers everywhere. LOL And he is slowly going in to his first moult. But we sprayed him just to make sure and we are keeping a look out for any lumps on his feet to make sure nothing worse is wrong. If we find any lumps he's going straight to the vet.

Wondering About Cage
I'm wondering if you can tell me if Dalek's cage is big enough for him please. And if you can suggest anything to make it even better, I am buying him a bird gym through the RSPCA soon so that will be on the outside of his cage so he can play on it when ever he is out, which is nearly every day. At the moment he is sitting on my knee squawking away at me. This is the side view: And this is the front: The ladder is there to help Dalek climb up in to his cage when he wants some seed, as he couldn't be bothered jumping up and down (my bird is lazy sometimes. LOL) Also this is the bird gym I am getting him: http://www.worldforpets.com.au/products/product_detail.asp?ID=4335 Hopefully he will like it and it will give him something other then my lap top to play on. LOL

A Little Concerned With Dalek.
Hey everyone, Dalek has been going great apart from a few small things that I am starting to worry will lead to a bigger problem. He has started to bite his feet, he hasn't made them bleed yet, but it is really starting to worry me. He is biting the sole and toes, he does it all the time, so I cna't pinpoint a time where he does it more then other times. The other thing is that he is sneezing a lot, I don't know if this is normal due to them preening all the time or not, I'm worried he has caught a cold or something.

Found Budgie, A Little Concerned
This is an amazing thing you are doing, and it is so great to see people will still care for animals and do so much for them. I hope everything works out for the little guy.

My New Budgie Dalek
Thank you so much for the tips. I am going to put some grated carot in with his seed tomorrow when I give him fresh food, so hopefully he will like that. I tried grapes and he nibbled it and then spat it back out on my hand and I was like 'okay... No grapes then...' LOL

My New Budgie Dalek
I thought I would post some more recent photos of Dalek to show you all how he is doing and growing up. He's nearing his first moult and I am seeing these as his baby pictures, and like any new mother I am happily flashing them around. LOL So here he is, the slightly more grown up Dalek! Snuggle time, he loves to fly around my room and then land on me. Watching videos on Youtube; He's favourite is Panic! At The Disco videos because there is so much to see. Sitting on my knee and being oh so cute! So that is Dalek, he has settled in happily and now I am working on getting him to eat some more food then just seed. Which is turning out to be a rather hard thing to do. LOL

My New Budgie Dalek
So cute! With the innocent eyes and round little figure eeep haha. I was thinking tho, doesnt a young budgie have stripes on the forehead down to the cere? He does have stripes all the way down, but the lower ones are just really faint and didn't show up in the picture.

How Can You Tell If Your Budgie Is Happy?
I'm wondering if there are any tell tale signs that show your bdugie is really happy. I have been reading heaps of stuff on this forum and on the web about having a pet budgie and it is really getting hard to know what is right and what isn't. Mum tells me to trust my instinct and trust in what he is doing. He is really active, he's always trying to escape his cage for free flight around my room, he is eating happily, he is really noisy and chirps a lot (even more when he can hear the other budgies in the flight aviary) He happily plays on his ladder and climbs in between the rungs, but he also rubs his head up and down against the side of the cage and bounces around the floor from one end of the cage to the other. I'm wondering if this shows he is happy or something else. Please help.

Am I Doing Something Wrong?
I had the same problem with my boy as a baby. I just made sure I never let him out when he was trying to get out- I would only let him out when he was calm. He cottoned on pretty quick. Ah, okay. Thanks for that tip, I think i'll use it in the future. LOL I'm just worried because he has come from a flight aviary and now he's in a small cage in my room. Well not small, big enough for a budgie and I will be getting a bigger one in a few months time LOL.
