heres some new babies from my most successful pair to date. two are starting to come out in colour can anyone help me tell what they are? i relise that the flash isnt helping the situation much but i cant figure out how to take it off:huh:
  3. thank you daz for posting your information i thoroughly enjoyed reading it, its good for begginers like myself to be able to come onto sites like this and be able to tap into the information like this thread. i think that im going to make my own 5 year plan it seems to be a smart way to go and means i that i can always know where im headed. i hope im at your point in 5 years. cheers;)
  4. yeah interesting. i thought it sounded weird. of course i dont know that much yet so i just took his word for it. oh and how many years does a budgie breed for? and when going into the breeding season how do you select which bird pairs with which?
  5. !. heredity plays a part in size not colour. 2. everyone will have a different answer. I wont breed mother to son, father to daughter, brother to sister. thanks kaz, yeah the breeder i went to siad that if you pair greys up they have smaller offspring which i thought sounded weird
  6. just to be a pain but i have a few more questions... 1.does the colour of a bird have any affect on its size? eg. would a grey bird be smaller than say a green? 2.how close should your birds be related when linebreeding?
  7. heres another one of my birds she looks alot better in person than in the picture, she sits very proud on the perch im hoping to get some good chicks from her
  8. You were definitely well treated, thats partly why i asked who it was lol. I know quite a few of the NZ breeders and the local prices so you should be well pleased with what you got. $30 each is an absolute steal, although for a beginner its just what you need. Go back to that breeder when you've bred a few birds and need outcrosses. definitely what part of nz are you from dean? Im in hamilton, but I got my best birds from Tauranga and have travelled a bit to see whats around. Will probably do some more travelling soon. i received an email from a breeder in hamilton who was selling alot of their stock because they were moving if you didnt already know? Yes that will be from Tony and Robyn. I have some of their line. I think their best feature is actually that the hens (at least the ones i've had from her) lay around 10 eggs a piece. As a general rule their birds lack the length that other top breeders have, but they have good width/feather/spot and other features. I can tell you more in private if you like, but definitely some good birds to be had from there if you were to get in quick. I am crossing some of my tauranga birds with a couple of grinter hens at the moment, will be crossing back to the tauranga stock but the grinter hens should produce numbers for me. yeah that sounds good dean id be interested to hear more. do you know them quite well?
  9. just a couple of questions.... 1. what do the ring colours mean i hear people talk about red and blue rings? 2.is cinnamon a sex linked variety? what other colours are? 3. how many rounds should you let a breeding couple go for? 4. how many times a year do budgies moult? 5. are you meant to keep cocks and hens separate throughout the year? any help would be much appreciated
